interview: Kenton Hall, author of "The Goodies" Pods and Monsters" |
more from same (The Goodies) |
The Goodies Rule - OK! Fan Club is pleased to present an interview with Kenton Hall, author of Chinbeard Books' second Goodies novella, "The Goodies: Pods and Monsters" (available for pre-order now from https://www.chinbeardbooks.com/apps/webstore/products/show/8264419).
1. How did you become involved in writing the novella? I’ve worked on a number of projects for Chinbeard Books, and Barnaby (Chief Beard) knew I was an aficionado of all things comedy. I was honoured to help out with a couple of jokes and some editing on the first book “Avengers Dissemble” so I was thrilled to get a chance to tackle one of my own.
2. Were you a fan of The Goodies work (their TV or radio shows) prior to becoming involved in this project? I’m Canadian, but I’ve always been obsessed with comedy, particularly British sketch comedy. I grew up on cassettes of I’m Sorry I’ll Read That Again. I deep dove into Python, Goodies and pretty much everything connected to that era. To paraphrase Ringo Starr, they look large in my legend.
3. Have you met any of The Goodies? I haven’t yet had the pleasure, although Graeme does have input on the books, which is astonishing enough. Knowing Graeme, Bill and Tim’s wife Christine support the books makes the experience much more exciting. I would love to meet Graeme and Bill though, just putting that out into the universe.
4. Was it intimidating to try to write a book in the Goodies' style? Trying to live up to the quality is certainly nerve-wracking. But they had such an influence on my own style, it’s about making it recognisably The Goodies while also making it my own. With comedy you can only write what you think is funny and hope other people will feel the same.
5. How nervous are you about the fans' reaction to your work? Well, I AM a fan, so that’s the only preliminary test I can run. Obviously, you want fans to like it, you want any reader to like it, but you can’t have that in your head when you’re writing. You have to go with your gut.
6. What other projects have you worked on that we might know? Well, there’s the comic memoir, Bisection about living and parenting with bipolar disorder. That’s my most personal book and I’m confident it has more jokes per page than any other book about mental health. I also co-wrote Getting Better: The Fight for the NHS for Audible, starring Rhod Gilbert. And I wrote and directed the film “A Dozen Summers” on Netflix. There’s a lot of other stuff and some very exciting things in the works. I’d recommend buying the Goodies book first and then one of mine.

RIP Jim Franklin |
more from same (The Goodies) |
We are saddened to share the news that Jim Franklin, who directed many Goodies episodes, passed away in August 2021 after a long illness. In a 2020 interview in honor of "The Goodies" 50th anniversary, Graeme Garden said, "Jim was a brilliant film editor, with a real feel for comedy. He cut the film sequences in the first series, then became director for the second series onward. He was meticulous in his preparation and drew detailed storyboards, which ensured that all the gags worked as intended, and also saved an awful lot of time and money. We admired him greatly and were very fond of him." The Radio Times article (https://www.radiotimes.com/tv/comedy/goodies-50th-anniversary-graeme-garden-interview/ ) goes on to say "Franklin and his amazing outdoor sequences had a lot to do with The Goodies' success at Montreux television festival, winning the Silver Rose in 1972 for the legendary Kitten Kong episode, and again in 1975 for the homage-packed story, The Movies."
Our thanks to Henri Phillipps and Ben Rohde for finding this article about Jim's passing: https://euroweeklynews.com/2021/09/24/james-jim-lyford-franklin-october-18-1934-august-11-2021/

2nd Goodies novella available for pre-order |
more from same (The Goodies) |
The second Goodies novella from Chinbeard Books is now available for pre-order. Join the team again for another Goodies-authorized adventure, with a forward by Robin Ince (and all sales benefitting a charity in honor of the late Tim Brooke-Taylor).
From the official product description:
"These are dark times for the BBC. Unceremoniously axed by the new Prime Minister, it has been forced from the airwaves at the very moment it is most needed.
For there is a mystery afoot that threatens the very fabric of the nation or, at least, of Tim’s waistcoat.
A missing sherbet heiress. A mysterious chalk outline. A bilingual rodent with a secret past.
Oh, and a brand new true crime podcast just waiting to take the country by storm.
That’s right.
The Goodies are on the air and on the case ."

Goodies novella from Barnaby Eaton-Jones to be published in March |
more from same (The Goodies) |
Coming this March, a new Goodies novella (fully authorized by Graeme Garden, Bill Oddie, and Tim Brooke-Taylor's family). Here is more information about the title, which is available for pre-order from https://www.chinbeardbooks.com/apps/webstore/products/show/8247210
BACKGROUND
In 2019, The Goodies reunited to record a brand-new adventure for Audible, under the guidance of producer Barnaby Eaton-Jones – who gently persuaded them to get back on their trandem bicycle.
This was called The Big Ben Theory, and was written by Gareth Gwynn and John-Luke Roberts, from a story by Barnaby Eaton-Jones, and directed by Dirk Maggs. It is still available online.
In the cast were Dame Joanna Lumley, Jon Culshaw, Kate Harbour, Philip Pope, and Barnaby Eaton-Jones – alongside The Goodies themselves; Graeme Garden, Bill Oddie, and Tim Brooke-Taylor. There was even a live band and studio audience.
This audio production was so well-received and successful that a series was commissioned, with the same team behind it and retaining the same company of actors as well.
Unfortunately, due to the sad passing of Tim Brooke-Taylor in 2020, from Covid, the audio series had to be cancelled. At that stage, material had been written and The Goodies had chosen the first six (of the twelve mooted) for the debut series on audio.
NEW GOODIES!
Fast forward to 2022, and the first of those stories has been turned into novella called Avengers Dissemble, which is a semi-sequel to the audio production (though you don’t have to have listened to the audio to understand it), as it features Dame Joanna Lumley – who has also written a beautiful and funny foreword for this book. This novella has been specifically produced by Chinbeard Books as a tribute to Tim Brooke-Taylor and 25% of the royalties will be going to the charity he was President of for over 25 years – Thames Valley Adventure Playground (who celebrate their 40th anniversary in 2022). You can read all about what they do here: https://www.tvap.co.uk/
If fans and the public get behind this first novella, then the rest of the series will also be written, and there could potentially be 12 ‘new episodes’ of The Goodies, that had comedic input from all three of the Super Chaps Three.
QUOTES
GRAEME GARDEN: “We had great fun working on ideas for an audio series with the ever inventive and energetic Barnaby Eaton Jones, and he has now turned the first of those ideas into book form. If you don’t like fun, satire, weirdness, wordplay and downright silliness then this is not the book for you.”
BILL ODDIE: “I have heard of a "novella", but what exactly is it? A cheap Italian wine? A kind of pizza? A short irritating opera? Or an extremely entertaining little book (featuring The Goodies) written by Barnaby Eaton-Jones? You're right, it is a pizza. (P.S. Novella also plays centre forward for Juventus).”
CHRISTINE BROOKE-TAYLOR: “Tim would have been really chuffed that The Goodies are reappearing in another form, from ideas he worked on with Graeme, Bill, and Barnaby. It's also lovely to know that a portion of the sales are going towards the Thames Valley Adventure Playground charity, which he was an active President of for over 25 years.”
BARNABY EATON-JONES: “For Graeme, Bill, and Christine to approve of the idea of this being my way of a tribute to Tim was on the way hand, humbling, on the other hand, exciting, and on the third hand (yes, I’ve got three hands) nerve-wracking. For fans, it gives them new, original adventures of the Super Chaps Three (which they initially were going to be called before The Goodies!), in the same style as the classic television series. I must dish out thanks to Gareth Gwynn and John-Luke Roberts, who allowed their ideas they contributed to the initial plots of the proposed audio series to be used, as well as Daniel McGachey (for his artwork and design), Kenton Hall (for his invaluable editing and support) and Graeme Garden (for overseeing the entire project); all of whom also provided additional material to beef the joke quota up to maximum capacity. But I’m claiming all the good jokes are my own, obviously. Ahem.”

trandem from Bill's 2013 Australia tour up for sale |
more from same (The Goodies) |
Ever wanted to own a trandem ridden by Bill Oddie? Australian Goodies fan Carl Burroughs is selling the bike made for Bill Oddie's 2013 "An Oldie but Goodie" Tour. Carl told me he originally bought the bike as he is a massive Goodies fan. He and his family enjoyed riding the bike and using it for a number of charity events and promotions (it comes with a trailer that can be used to show a large poster). Since the bike hasn't been getting as much use lately he's decided it's time to let another Goodies fan enjoy it. You can contact Carl via this Facebook post https://www.facebook.com/thegoodiestv/posts/10164673673305316 or, if you're not a Facebook user, drop me a line at president@goodiesruleok.com and I'll send him your contact info.

A New Lego Goodies Idea! |
more from same (The Goodies) |
This idea for a Lego Goodies set was found on Lego’s website ‘Lego Ideas’ where people can submit their own ideas for new lego kits. To be produced and made available in their shops etc.
The project was created by Goodies Fan Sapphire Sundae in July 2019.
This is the description for the idea….
The Goodies was a British comedy TV series that ran from 1970 to 1982 with 9 series and 76 episodes. The show follows three men, Tim, Bill and Graeme who do “anything anytime”. This business led to whaky hijinks ranging from a pirate radio station (S1 E7 Radio Goodies), to a tomato sauce battle in the west (S5 E2 Bunfight at the O.K. Tearooms), to the ancient Lancastrian martial art of Ecky Thump (S5 E7 Kung Fu Kapers).
I propose a Lego set of their iconic Office that served as their base of operations from The New Office (S3 E1) onwards. The set would consist of the Office, the pirate radio station The Saucy Gibbon, a bean bag and punching bag for “Bill’s Bit” along with 21 minifigures , outlining the outlandish and iconic outfits that the trio wear throughout the show. These would include:
Classic outfits (Various) Advertising Men/String Vest (S6 E5 It Might as Well be String) Western (S5 E12 Bunfight at the O.K. Tearooms) Cowboy/Black and White/Sampson (S5 E1 The Movies) Lighthouse Keepers (S5 E8 Lighthouse Keeping Loonies) Masked Scouts (S7 E3 Scoutrageous) and Disco (S8 E2 Saturday Night Grease) Captain Graeme (S1 E7 Radio Goodies), Ecky Thump (S5 E7 Kung Fu Kapers) and Maid (S1 E6 Cecily) Extra heads and hairs/hats for Clown variants, with a can of tomato soup (S5 E2 Clown Virus) The Office (an abandoned train station) would have a removable roof, allowing for the office to open up. The inside consists of “Chez Tim” on one side and “Graeme’s Den” on the other. “Bill’s Bit” would consist of a bean bag and Tony Blackburn punching bag to put in the middle, also including Tim’s gramophone. It would also include theSaucy Gibbon, the pirate radio station disguised as a boat.
NOTE: The set could also include their iconic trandem, though I could not include it, as new pieces are not permitted.
Unfortunately, this project has expired. But, according to the ‘Official Lego Comment’ on the page, this idea could be resubmitted. And you can still leave feedback ( via the private feedback section).
So, if you want a lego Goodies set for next Christmas, head to this link to show your interest for it….

Goodies-related events at Slapstick 2020 (full schedule announced) |
more from same (The Goodies) |
The full program for Slapstick 2020 has been released and can be viewed at https://www.slapstick.org.uk/slapstick-events/
Here are some Goodies-related events:
* At Last the 1948 Show: Almost Complete! with Tim Brooke-Taylor https://www.slapstick.org.uk/event/at-last-the-1948-show-almost-complete-with-tim-brooke-taylor/ SAT 25 JAN 1330hrs Watershed £5.00-£10.00
‘At Last the 1948 Show’ triggered a revolution destined to change the face of TV comedy forever. John Cleese, Tim Brooke-Taylor, Aimi MacDonald, Marty Feldman and Graham Chapman burst onto the nation’s small screens in an explosion of unrelated and often surreal sketches. It paved the way for both Month Python and The Goodies. With a new – as complete as it’s likely to ever be – three DVD/BluRay set released recently by BFI we thought a re-evaluation and a glimpse at the newly discovered footage with series star and Slapstick patron Tim Brooke-Taylor was long overdue. Tim will be in conversation with fan of the series Robin Ince. Followed by an audience Q&A and post-event DVD signing with Tim.
* The Goodies: 50th Anniversary https://www.slapstick.org.uk/event/the-goodies-50th-anniversary/ 25 January 2020, 1800hrs Redgrave Theatre £20.00
It’s almost half a century since the first episode of The Goodies hit our TV screens and made household names of it’s stars; Tim Brooke-Taylor, Bill Oddie and Graeme Garden. Join Bristol’s Slapstick Festival for an evening of mirth and mayhem as all three members of the legendary comedy team discuss the extraordinary legacy of their award-winning TV series (1970-82).
Radio 4’s Infinite Monkey Cage co-host Robin Ince hosts this onstage ‘In conversation’ event complete with a full screening of a classic episode of the show hand picked as the public’s favourite via an online poll. Followed by a Q&A with the boys. With a new audio series on Audible in the pipeline too, here’s to the next 50 years!
* Bill’s Animated Flicks With Bill Oddie https://www.slapstick.org.uk/event/bills-animated-flicks-with-bill-oddie/ SUN 26 JAN 0930hrs Watershed £5.00-£8.00
Bill Oddie has a passion for cartoons and a particular love for the more slapstick antics of Bugs Bunny, Wile E. Coyote, Road Runner, and of course Tom and Jerry. In fact, The Goodies have always cited both silent comedy and early cartoons as huge influences on their onscreen comedy. In conversation with Robin Ince, Bill shares his passion for visual comedy and reflects on his favourite moments and shorts from classic animations and his beloved cartoons.
* Barry Cryer and Colin Sell: Live Again! https://www.slapstick.org.uk/event/barry-cryer-and-colin-sell-live-again/ 26 January 2020 1400hrs Bristol Old Vic Theatre, £14.00 – £18.50
In yet another farewell tour, Baz returns, re-united with Colin Sell who refuses to take no for an answer.
Barry Cryer, still a “Sprightly Veteran” (Undertaker’s Gazette) and Colin Sell a “Legendary Virtuoso” (Pensioner’s Weekly) combine to entertain you with songs, jokes and the amazing realisation that they’re still here.
Running time: 60 mins
*47 years without a clue: Hosted by Rob Brydon https://www.slapstick.org.uk/event/47-years-without-a-clue-hosted-by-rob-brydon/
Hosted by Rob Brydon 26 January 2020 1700hrs Bristol Old Vic Theatre, £15.00 – £22.50
Join Barry Cryer, Tim Brooke-Taylor and Graeme Garden as they relive their favourite moments from the UK’s most listened to and best-loved radio comedy show “I’m Sorry I Haven’t A Clue” in conversation with frequent Clue panellist, Rob Brydon. With Colin Sell on the piano this is a unique and unmissable event for radio comedy fans, for one night only.
Running time: 70 mins
* I’m Sorry I’ll Read That Again Again….Re-United! https://www.slapstick.org.uk/event/im-sorry-ill-read-that-again-re-united/
26 January 2020 2000hrs Bristol Old Vic Theatre
Performed live on stage in radio comedy style with music and sound effects, The Offstage Theatre Group recreates the anarchic and deliciously surreal legendary radio comedy I’m
Sorry I’ll Read That Again.
Featuring three of the original cast: Tim Brooke-Taylor, Graeme Garden and Bill Oddie. Stand by for full frontal comedy, wicked parodies, glorious puns and manic songs in a medley of Greatest Hits showcase created especially for the Slapstick Festival – plus the unmistakable strains of the Angus Prune Tune and the unavoidable smells of the Rhubarb Tart of Omar Khayyam. Audible Originals Goodies episode to be released 10th October |
more from same (The Goodies) |
Thanks to Barnaby Eaton-Jones for this information:
THE AUDIBLE GOODIES...
You can hear them soon. The 10th of October (the link will be posted that day).
Previously known as 'Live In Your Ear', 'The Big Ben Theory' is a corker of a new Goodies episode - as Graeme Garden explains:
"We've tried to stay close to The Goodies low-tech roots and this show has no computer generated images or 3D.
In fact, viewers in Scotland will only hear it in black and white."
THE GOODIES are back!
The Super Chaps Three return, after nearly 40 years, in a brand-new, hour-long, radio-style adventure brought to you by AUDIBLE ORIGINALS.
TIM BROOKE-TAYLOR, GRAEME GARDEN and BILL ODDIE climb back on their trandem, equipped with a fourth saddle for their special guest JOANNA LUMLEY, in a show full of Goodie-ness and recorded before a live studio audience.
As Parliament falls apart and sinister dictators threaten the world, Tim, Graeme and Bill must save the day.
They defeated Kitten Kong! They stuffed the Funky Gibbon! They invented Ecky Thump!
Can they save Parliament as well? 52% say yes. 48% say no. But, you just can't rely on statistics, can you?!
Starring TIM BROOKE-TAYLOR, GRAEME GARDEN & BILL ODDIE, with JOANNA LUMLEY. Featuring JON CULSHAW, KATE HARBOUR, PHILIP POPE and BARNABY EATON-JONES.
Music performed by ANDY RUSHTON, ANDREW FARRINGTON, CATH THOMAS and PAUL WOOD
Recorded by JERRY PEAL for AUDIBLE ORIGINALS
Written by GARETH GWYNN & JOHN-LUKE ROBERTS, with GRAEME GARDEN & BILL ODDIE
From an original story by BARNABY EATON-JONES

Enjoy some rare material from this beloved TV series and hear from two of its stars. The series has now been lovingly pieced together for a BFI release, and this afternoon we’ll also exclusively preview some of the extra material that will be included, alongside two last recovered editions from the series. This material has not previously been shown at our popular Missing Believed Wiped events. To enjoy 2 tix for the price of 1 simply quote MARKETING241 https://bit.ly/2L4ki95
* It’s… Monty Python at 50, September 2019 - BFI SOUTHBANK 241 TICKET OFFER
In 1969 John Cleese, Terry Gilliam, Eric Idle, Terry Jones, Michael Palin and Graham Chapman took one small silly walk for man, but one surreal leap for comedy when they unleashed their brilliant sketch show, Monty Python’s Flying Circus, on an unsuspecting British public. The iconic TV series launched stage shows, films, numerous albums, books and musicals, and half a century later, ripples still emanate from that splash, with many modern-day practitioners citing the Pythons as an influence. With programming input from the Pythons themselves, we celebrate the ingenious sextet with the largest and silliest celebration of the original show and its many roots, branches and offshoots.

Message from The Goodies - The Movie Facebook Page... |
more from same (The Goodies) |
https://www.facebook.com/pg/thegoodiesthemovie/posts/
Hello everyone.
We’ve now reached the end of our crowdfunding campaign and unfortunately did not raise enough money to be able to start making the feature documentary on The Goodies. We’re really sorry this hasn’t worked and hope for the fans that did support the campaign that you know what a wonderful gesture you made (your money will automatically be refunded). We really appreciate everyone who carried the message and spread the word – especially a big shout out to Lisa, Sally Ann and Jenny – awesome work ladies!
If we can find any other way of making this work we’ll come back here and let you know. Broadcasters are not commissioning this kind of thing any more so chances are slim that we can find the money as the total cost to shoot and finish the documentary is far beyond what we were crowdfunding for.
Thanks again everyone for your support and enthusiasm, all the very best Kim, Billy and Pete.

Want to (virtually) get up close and personal with The Goodies this autumn? |
more from same (The Goodies) |
From The Goodies Facebook Page https://www.facebook.com/thegoodiestv/
Want to (virtually) get up close and personal with The Goodies this autumn? You can if you get your ticket for the once-in-a-lifetime Q&A with Tim Brooke-Taylor, Graeme Garden, and Bill Oddie (which is in support of the crowdfunding campaign for “The Goodies – The Movie” documentary film). Tim, Graeme, and Bill will be answering your questions AND mentioning you by name when they read them out!
This online event is open to everyone. The organisers have planned to hold it on a weekend so that the majority of fans will be at home for it. The plan is that it will go live early evening Australian time, which is late morning UK time. If you’re on the East Coast of America it’s going to be an early start (but worth it to see The Goodies and have them give you a shout out, as well as to join the fun with the international Goodies community).
Once you’ve reserved your spot the organisers will get in touch with details of when the Q&A will take place, how you log in to participate, and to gather your questions. We don’t know when there’ll be another live audience with The Goodies so make sure you get your ticket at https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/the-goodies-the-movie#/

The Goodies -The Movie Documentary Crowdfunding Campaign, The Perk’s... |
more from same (The Goodies) |
The perks for the Goodies movie documentary have become live today. Choose your goodies reward and help make this movie happen!
The Goodies -The Movie To celebrate their 50th anniversary this is the world's first feature documentary on The Goodies!
Overview Finally telling the story of The Goodies. IN THEIR OWN WORDS. YES THAT'S RIGHT. More relevant today than ever before...with chart-topping hits...politics ahead of their time...and a style of comedy that's never been rivalled. It's the story we've all been waiting for. Everything you ever wanted to know. Coming to a screen near you in 2020.
When Tim Brooke-Taylor, Graeme Garden and Bill Oddie were asked by the BBC to create a show that would be accessible to the mainstream, they thought they’d only last one series. So they decided to have some fun and make a show for themselves. Something that made them laugh - hoping that we’d laugh too. Throwing into it every comic device they’d loved as kids, and with Bill writing some very witty songs: they called themselves THE GOODIES.
They saw their comedy as a way of telling the truth about the world - about politics and civil rights, inequality, celebrity and the system in general. They were anti-establishment in their views but very silly in their humour. When the first series aired in November 1970, we tuned in. 10 million of us. We laughed so much that by 1982 we’d watched 76 episodes of the show. We couldn’t get enough. So for any fan who still wants more, this is their story. The bits before, the bits during and the bits right up to now…a tale of epic proportion, fifty years in the making and NEVER BEEN TOLD BEFORE, well, not quite like this anyhow.
WHAT’S IT ALL ABOUT? Well, the video says it all really. By backing this campaign you’ll be helping us tell the story we’ve all been waiting for… The Goodies THE DEFINITIVE STORY like it’s never been told. And that’s because they’re the ones telling it - Tim, Bill and Graeme are on board to tell their no-holds barred, in-depth story for the very first time. We’ll be bringing unseen material into the world as we scour every archive library and attic out there, looking for Goody gold. Hopefully footage you’ve never seen before and audio-taped interviews that have only existed in journalists' basements up until now. With your help, we’ll be showing as many clips from the episodes as we can. It’s a numbers game: the more money we raise, the more clips we can license. We’ll be interviewing all those people that were part of their journey, telling stories that have never been heard before. Anecdotes, memories and laughter. How are we going to fit it all into 90 minutes? We’ll do our best to tell you an incredibly unique story, hopefully one with a few surprises for even the most knowledgeable fans.
OUR AIM FOR THIS CROWDFUNDING CAMPAIGN… ... is to get this film started, to get the DEFINITIVE STORY OF THE GOODIES into production. We can film the 'Super Chaps' in late summer, begin to tell the GOODIES' story with the most important contributors of all. With this compelling footage, we can show TV networks and home video distributors how good this can be, and secure the financial support necessary to complete the movie. For those who help us, you will not have to wait until the movie is made to be able to enjoy knowing more about the GOODIES as the £100,000 raised lets us produce an exclusive live online Q&A with Bill, Graeme and Tim, to happen in autumn 2019! We're also making available exclusive rewards for our supporters (see the right hand of this page) that will be shipped if we hit our target.
WHY DOES THIS STORY NEED TELLING NOW? Chances are, if we don’t tell this story now it will never happen, because a lot hinges on their 50th anniversary next year. That’s what will give us the buzz around the film, get the press talking and the publicity machine whirring. Everyone loves a milestone anniversary, so we have to aim for it. If we miss it, the opportunity could be lost. That's why we're asking Goodies fans to get involved, and to help us get this done now. It really is up to you.
HOW MUCH DO WE NEED TO RAISE TO START PRODUCTION? The more we raise, the more we can do. £100,000 means we can start shooting the interviews, access rare archive footage and photographs and start putting the film together in the edit suite. The chart below details how this budget will be spent and includes the exclusive live online Q&A and merchandise rewards. As we said, the more we raise, the more we can do.
WHAT ARE THE REWARDS FOR OUR SUPPORTERS? For those of you who want to help tell THE GOODIES story, start scrolling through the REWARDS and choose which one suits your budget, then make a pledge. (We’ll only collect your money at the end of the campaign, if we hit our target). You can only buy one reward but you can upgrade to another level of reward at any time.
WHAT WE’D LOVE YOU TO DO Pledge! Join in, pledge for a reward and make The Goodies – The Movie happen! Spread the word amongst your friends, family and contacts and share your involvement via Twitter and Facebook, YOU can make a really big difference! https://twitter.com/GoodiesMovie https://www.facebook.com/TheGoodiesTheMovie/

"An Audience With The Goodies" DVD scheduled for March 4, 2019 release |
more from same (The Goodies) |
Network's website shows a "coming soon" release of "The Goodies: An Audience With The Goodies" (at https://networkonair.com/coming-soon/2972-goodies-the-an-audience-with-the-goodies), scheduled for a March 4, 2019 release. It's not available for pre-order at the moment but the current price on the webpage is £8.45.
Here's the full description from that website:
In 1970, The Goodies unleashed their legendary blend of surreal storylines, strikingly topical satire, slapstick and general lunacy on an unsuspecting viewing public. Capturing the irreverent and rebellious flavour of the decade, this phenomenally popular, award-winning series spread its mischief over twelve years, making household names of creators, writers and performers Bill Oddie, Graeme Garden and Tim Brooke-Taylor.
Recorded in June 2018 at the Leicester Square Theatre, An Audience with The Goodies reunited Tim, Bill and Graeme on stage for a very special one-night-only event! Talking to writer/performer/comedian Stewart Lee and writer/archive television expert Dick Fiddy, the three Goodies discuss their career and the enduring popularity of the series - as well as taking questions from the audience!

COMPETITION! WIN A COPY OF THE GOODIES: THE COMPLETE BBC COLLECTION - Slapstick |
more from same (The Goodies) |
There's another chance to win a copy of The new Goodies DVD Boxset, this time from the goody people at the Slapstick Festival!
Goodies fans will be thrilled to hear that the long wait is finally over as The Goodies: The Complete BBC Collection has, at last, been released!!! We have full details about this quite magnificent artefact below – plus a chance for two lucky people to win a copy of it!
The low down:
“The DVD set contains all the episodes (69, many of which haven’t appeared on DVD before!) that Tim, Bill and Graeme made for the BBC – from a giant white fluffy kitten called Twinkle to a slippery climb up a giant beanstalk, from the ancient Lancastrian art of Ecky Thump to fighting a ban on fun instigated by an all-too-real puppet government, this is television comedy at its undeniable best!”
The DVD will also feature the absolute bonus of “An Audience with The Goodies”. Recorded in June 2018, this one-night-only event saw Tim, Graeme and Bill reunited on stage to discuss their career and the enduring popularity of the series and to welcome questions from their most devoted fans.
The DVD is already on sale and should you fail to be lucky enough to win a copy in our competition (see below) you can purchase one via this handy link – then bring it along to our Goodies event during Slapstick 2019 to get it signed if you wish!

Nice feature Interview with all 3 Goodies in October's issue of 'The Oldie' |
more from same (The Goodies) |
Thanks to Tom Finney at Blue Dolphin Films for passing this along.
The Goodies have the last laugh
Messed around by the BBC, dropped by ITV, and then sadly ignored, Graeme, Bill and Tim are celebrating the DVD release of their complete works, they tell Harry Mount
Harry Mount Goodies! Goody goody yum yum… To people of a certain vintage, the words snap you back to the 1970s – and a unique mix of slapstick, silent comedy, silliness and satire created by Graeme Garden, Bill Oddie and Tim Brooke-Taylor.
The Goodies rode high in the television ratings – for the BBC from 1970 to 1980, and then at ITV until 1982. But then ITV cancelled the series. And the grumpy old BBC refused to show repeats in the intervening 36 years, the odd late-night airing apart.
And so The Goodies slipped into a memory hole – cherished by adults and children who were around in the 1970s, but otherwise strangely stranded in time.
But the boys are back! All 67 half-hour episodes are now available on DVD for the first time.
Talking to them, it’s striking what pleasure they take in recalling the programme – and their days in the Cambridge Footlights nearly 60 years ago. Graeme Garden, 75, was in the year below Bill Oddie, 77, and Tim Brooke-Taylor, 78.
When Graeme Garden – training to be a doctor – met Oddie and Brooke-Taylor, he was, at his own admission, a little unsure of himself.
‘I was far too afraid to join the Footlights to begin with,’ he says. ‘I joined Cambridge University Light Entertainments – known as Cules. Thank God I didn’t join the Cambridge University National Trust Society.’
Garden says this deadpan – just like he delivers his one-liners on I’m Sorry I Haven’t a Clue, where he appears alongside Brooke-Taylor – while he waits for me to work out the acronym.
All three come across like their Goodies screen characters. Garden is quiet but breaks the silence to drop in the brilliant one-liners. He recalls delivering babies in Plymouth: ‘Ark Royal had been in nine months before – so it was quite a busy time.’
‘Graeme’s always been like that,’ says Oddie. ‘Says nothing and then drops in the perfect jeu de mots, and everyone says, “Oh, isn’t he witty?” ’
Oddie is effusive and chatty. ‘He always talks more than us two, but he’s manageable,’ says Brooke-Taylor, who’s affable, mild and gentle.
‘The casting in The Goodies is spot-on,’ says Oddie. ‘Graeme has got a touch of the scientist, Tim has got a touch of the golfer, and I wouldn’t wear suits. Class was there definitely.’
Garden agrees: ‘Tim with a hyphen was the posh boy. I was the science boy and Bill was the scruffy little oik. Tim reckons he’s the most unlike his character.’
You can see their dynamic at work on Top of the Pops when The Goodies sing their 1975 hit Funky Gibbon – composed, like all their music, by Oddie.
‘Bill is absolutely enjoying it, Graeme looks like he wishes he was 1,000 miles away, and I’m in-between,” says Brooke-Taylor. ‘Still, I’ve always had two dreams: to score the winning goal in the World Cup, and to be on Top of the Pops with Pan’s People. I’ve done one out of two.’
Garden denies he hated the song, saying, ‘I just didn’t want to show them up with my funky disco moves.’
There is constant teasing between them but it is clearly affectionate.
‘We never had rows,’ says Garden, ‘Because there were three of us, you always had a two-to-one majority. We never took ourselves seriously enough to get vicious.’
They still get on well together but rarely reunite.
‘It’s their fault – they both moved out of London,’ says Oddie, who lives in the capital. ‘Graeme is near Oxford and Tim is in Cookham Dean. I began to bristle when I saw Graeme mutter and look at his watch because he wanted to go home.’
Untangling the birth of The Goodies requires a doctorate in comedy history. Peter Cook was Footlights president in 1960; Tim Brooke-Taylor in 1963; Graeme Garden in 1964; Eric Idle in 1965. And then the future Pythons and Goodies mingled on revues and TV comedies throughout the 1960s.
‘I compare it to a football team or a band,’ says Oddie. ‘They exchange a lead singer every now and then.’
So, when the BBC commissioned the first Goodies series in 1970, all three were drenched in the same influences as the Pythons.
‘The ghost of Peter Cook had been very strong at Cambridge,’ says Garden. ‘Everything we did was labelled satire. We wanted to shake that off. And so we went back to music hall for The Goodies. We were also influenced by silent movies, particularly Buster Keaton, animated cartoons and the Beano.’
The Goodies was distinguished from sketch shows by having a half-hour story, each with a new theme.
‘That’s the problem with a sketch show – you have to have a punchline,’ says Brooke-Taylor. ‘We were anti-Establishment – I think that’s why we’re popular in Australia and Scotland. And not being able to swear encouraged us to be funnier – even if there were some camp parts I wouldn’t do now.’
The only premise was that the three of them lived together and would do ‘anything, anytime, anywhere’.
‘Living together is a good theme, like Morecambe and Wise and the Marx Brothers,’ says Brooke-Taylor. ‘It means you don’t have to go into stories about wives and girlfriends.’
The programme was spiced up with guest stars. ‘Patrick Moore was a punk in one episode,’ recalls Garden. ‘We also had a lot of women who weren’t just eye candy – Beryl Reid as Mary Whitehouse [called Desiree Carthorse in the show], June Whitfield, Jane Asher...’
Garden and Oddie wrote The Goodies, with each writing a separate half, and then meeting to splice the halves together. They would swap verbal and visual gags, too.
‘I did the least,’ says Brooke-Taylor. ‘The hard graft was done by Graeme and Bill.’
Before writing, they drew up what they called ‘a Panorama list’ of themes. ‘Anything with a strong image,’ says Oddie. ‘If it was topical, it was no bad thing.’
That explains the 1975 episode attacking police violence in apartheid South Africa. The BBC objected, complaining it wasn’t funny enough. So they added in more jokes, and the episode was aired.
‘We’d often put two incongruous things together,’ says Oddie, ‘Kung fu was big at the time, and we were all from the North. So we came up with Ecky Thump.’
That 1975 episode – about a Lancashire martial art, involving hurling black puddings while wearing flat caps – was the one that led to a fan dying from laughing so much.
The most famous programme was Kitten Kong, the 1971 episode about a giant kitten terrorising London, climbing the Post Office Tower and squashing Michael Aspel. Oddie devised the idea from a rejected sketch he’d written for Ronnie Barker about Barker taking a super-powered kitten for a walk.
The Goodies moved to ITV in 1980 when the BBC dithered about commissioning another series. They were paid three times as much at ITV – and the series was more lavishly filmed.
When a new boss chopped the programme in 1982, the BBC was still annoyed at the trio leaving – and remained annoyed for decades, refusing to run repeats.
‘ “I have to remind you that the Goodies left the BBC,” was the response when fans asked for repeats,’ says Oddie.
The programme appealed to grown-ups and children, even though it originally went out at 10pm before being brought back to 9pm.
‘I get children from then saying, “I grew up with you,”’ says Oddie. ‘I tell them, “No one watching The Goodies ever grew up.” ’
‘The Goodies: The Complete BBC Collection’ is released on 24th September (£79.99)

more from same (The Goodies) |
From ITV.com Press Centre page....
'The Imitation Game is a high-energy panel show for ITV hosted by Alexander Armstrong, that sees team captains and top impressionists Rory Bremner and Debra Stephenson lead teams of the UK’s favourite mimics and comedians in a number of fast-paced games and challenges. Each week, both teams go head-to-head as they re-enact iconic movie scenes, re-voice news footage, blast out some surprising cover versions and put unlikely words in the mouths of all kinds of celebrities. This week, Rory Bremner and Debra Stephenson are joined by special guests Luke Kempner and Jess Robinson to perform a series of comedy games. Featuring a dazzling array of voices, some horribly miscast movies, show-stopping musical impersonations and an hilarious attempt to date Christopher Biggins.'
This panel show was created by Graeme Garden and Jon Naismith.
And starts tomorrow (Sunday 2nd September) at 10,05pm on ITV.

Message from The Goodies (sent from Leicester Square theatre box office) |
more from same (The Goodies) |
This e-mail has been sent out to all ticket holders for this event. (And really only applies if you are attending ‘An Audience with The Goodies’ at Leicester Square on June 7th. )
But it deserves putting here non the less...
THE GOODIES ARE COMING FOR YOU, AND YOU, AND YOU...
... and we want your questions.
We’re the Goodies, how d’you do. And we’ll be coming to Leicester Square (all right, we know that doesn’t rhyme, but who said it had to?)
As you know – well you should know, you’ve bought a ticket – we, The Goodies, will be appearing at Leicester Square Theatre on 7 June, 2018 (and a bit) at a special event entitled An Audience With The Goodies.
We’re providing the Goodies (naturally). And you’re providing the audience. As a member of that audience, we know you’re just burning to ask us a question. It could be anything at all... Is Bill a glove puppet? Where do Bush Babies come from? What’s our favourite brand of black pudding?*... actually, those are pretty rotten questions, and you’re sure to have some better ones to ask.
The whole event is being filmed, and to ensure it all runs smoothly, we need advance notice of your question. This will save you the bother of putting your hand in the air (you can put it anywhere you like, really, within reason). It also means that the people doing the filming can ensure everything runs like clockwork... just like their cameras.
You’re probably thinking this is just a ruse to allow us to mug up the answers in advance and appear ever so erudite and intellectual on the night. Well, you’d be right, apart from Graeme who already knows what you’re going to ask thanks to his computer. Imagine a silly version of Question Time, with us as the panel... no, we can’t imagine that either.
Just like the real Question Time, your face will probably be seen on camera when we prompt you to ask your question. So you’ll be almost as famous as we are.
Obviously, we can’t guarantee that everyone who sends in a question will be able to ask it on the night, but we’ll do our best. We are The Goodies, after all...
Right, over to you...
Give me an ooh... or rather, just send us your question, together with your name and seat number to: TheGoodies@networkdistributing.com
Questions must be received by 25 May... so you've got until then to think up some really hard ones!
*Don’t ask this, as we already know the answer: Peckinpah’s Perfect Puddings (none blacker)
See you on the 7th!
Tim, Graeme & Bill

I'm Sorry I'll Read That Again, Again. Back for a one night Christmas Show |
more from same (The Goodies) |
The OfftheStage Theatre Company's I'm Sorry I'll Read That Again, Again show. Is back for a one off Christmas Special.
'I'm Sorry I'll Read That Again (Again) Xmas Wonder Show'
Ding Dong! Merrily On High! Angus Prune OBE is back, with the Plum Pudding of Radio Comedy - It's … I'm Sorry I'll Read That Again (Again) - A Christmas Wonder Show!
A brand-new and strictly one-off compilation, celebrating the festive episodes of this anarchic and deliciously surreal comedy series that gave birth to The Goodies, Monty Python's Flying Circus and I'm Sorry I Haven't A Clue. After their critically-acclaimed tour this year, The OFFSTAGE Theatre Group once again recreates the famously full-frontal sketch show that laid waste to BBC Radio from 1964 to 1973 - with a live band and sound effects.
Stand by for wicked parodies, glorious puns and silly songs from the pens of Graeme Garden and Bill Oddie, as well as the return of the ever-frisky Lady Constance de Coverlet in the form of special guest star TIM BROOKE-TAYLOR!
From Doctor Zhivago (and his Magic Lamp) to Jack The Ripper (and The Beanstalk), via the unmistakable strains of the Angus Prune Tune and the unavoidable rudeness of The Christmas Hymns Dirty Songbook, this is a chance to meet again the much-loved characters first created by Tim Brooke-Taylor, John Cleese, Graeme Garden, David Hatch, Jo Kendall and Bill Oddie.
Dress code: Christmas hats optional but encouraged!
Tickets £15 8TH OF DECEMBER 2017, CHELTENHAM PLAYHOUSE. http://www.cheltplayhouse.org.uk/whats-on/autumn-2017/im-sorry-ill-read-that-againagain-xmas-wonder-show/
Also Barnaby and Co are trying to raise funds for plans to take this show on tour once again next year. So if you can spare a few quid for this fantastic wonder show. You will be able to see such delights as Gibbon Stuffing, Ferrets up noses, knees, and loads more Lady Constance 'de Cavalet. Bill's new book 'Tales of a Ludicrous Bird Gardener' - Now available! |
more from same (The Goodies) |
The new title 'Tales of a Ludicrous Bird Gardener' by Bill Oddie is now available to purchase from Amazon and various other book shops.
Here's a blurb about the book:
In a sense this book is a garden-based autobiography of Britain's most famous birdwatcher. The main narrative covers Bill's personal relationship, not only with his present garden, which was described by the Daily Mail as "Probably the most bizarre back garden in Britain", but also with the gardens he has known throughout his life. The first was what he has called "a sink full of mud" in industrial Rochdale in the 1940s. Next came a larger garden on the edge of Birmingham which he used as a bird ringing station, sometimes helped or hindered by his granny, who often trimmed the lawn with a pair of scissors! In Tales of Ludicrous Bird Gardens there are plenty of eccentric stories about garden characters such as the 'feng shui fox', who constantly rearranged the ornaments, 'Limpy', the one-legged single-parent Great Tit, and one memorable nightmarish occasion when over 50 rats came to visit! This book is NOT an instructional guide on 'How to be a ludicrous gardener' although it may well prove inspirational to others to have a go, or to warn them on what to avoid. Bill abhors decking, large concrete patios, and above, all leaf-blowers.As well as neighbours who whinge about the parakeets! What is certain about Tales of Ludicrous Bird Gardens is that Bill's entertaining take on gardening for birds makes compelling reading.

The OFFSTAGE Theatre Group needs you help to secure more ISIRTAA! |
more from same (The Goodies) |
From the fundraising page...
We are The OFFSTAGE Theatre Group and have been running from our base in Gloucestershire since 1991. We've won the odd award, toured the 'classics' and premiered a lot of original work, all of which has been highly-acclaimed.
In 2016, we performed a 'Greatest Hits' version of the classic BBC Radio comedy I'm Sorry I'll Read That Again, after being given the exclusive licence to do so. This was a one-off production for charity.
In 2017, we took a revamped version of the show - I'm Sorry I'll Read That Again... Again! - on a 5-star reviewed tour...
"...Most importantly, they'd tweaked the material to bring it up to date, but only in a most sensitive manner, like somebody restoring an old master. Though timeless and surreal references to ferrets and groansome puns were its stock-in-trade, it seemed more like the original, ironically, when they occasionally included references to current events, so that it felt like a real show rather than a museum piece. Particularly impressive were the few comments about the general election result, which was only announced on the day of the performance. Purists needn't worry, they didn't change very much, it was still mainly packed full of swinging 60s zaniness, but those light touches of modernisation elevated the show to as near perfect as you could hope for. 5/5"
Here's the video trailer for that tour: 2017 Tour Trailer
So, what's next? Well, two things, actually. Thanks for asking!
Firstly, we'd like to put on a I'm Sorry I'll Read That Again Christmas Special (pieced together from the numerous Christmas shows that the original series produced).
Secondly, we'd very much like to go on a bigger tour in 2018, essentially doing a 'Greatest Hits II' - there's so much funny material over nine series that this would be an entirely NEW show.
And this is where YOU come in! If you saw the show, or were desperate to see it and couldn't make it, then perhaps you'd consider funding our next stage of the creative process? We'd be most grateful.
Our budget might seem like a lot but here's a little run-down of what this professional production has to pay for...
Cost of Venue Hire (performance and technical) Cost of Adapting The Script Cost of Rehearsal Space Cost of 4 Professional Musicians Cost of 5 Professional Actors Cost of Special Guest Star(s); original cast members Tim Brooke-Taylor, Graeme Garden, Bill Oddie, Jo Kendall and John Cleese, for example. Cost of Graphic Designer/Artist (posters and artwork) Cost of Set Building/Props (construction and materials) Cost of Copyright Percentage Cost of SFX Operator and Stage Manager Cost of extra Sound Equipment for venue (mics, etc) Cost of Public Liability Insurance Cost of Publicity (posters, flyers, programmes, etc) Cost of Producer/Director fees
So, we hope you might see your way to helping us with this and claiming one of the rewards up for grabs in doing so. It's a show that is purely entertaining and very, very silly. We'd appreciate your support.
The are a few prizes to choose from. 10 gets you a Gibbon Stuffing and if you have the pockets (like Graeme in the Movies episode) You can splash out on the Dirty Song Book item which is 750.
There a loads more things to chose from there so get picking!

Slapstick 2017 changes to programme. |
more from same (The Goodies) |
There has been some changes to the line up of these events.
Due to unforeseen circumstances Bill is no longer able to attend Book Shambles on Saturday at 1.20pm. Its unknown if he still doing the Sunday morning event. So it will be just Graeme doing Book Shambles.
Best wishes to Bill.
The full festival schedule can be found at http://www.slapstick.org.uk/. Note that in addition to the events with the Goodies there are also events with Barry Cryer, Colin Sell, and a celebration of "The Young Ones" with Alexi Sayle, Nigel Planer & series co-writer Lise Mayer.
Here are the Goodies-related events:
1."Robin and Not Josie's Book Shambles: The Goodies Watershed | 1.20pm | Tickets: 9.00/6.50
The hugely popular podcast 'Robin and Josie's Book Shambles' comes to Slapstick to interrogate Graeme Garden and Bill Oddie on the books they made as two thirds of the TV comedy trio The Goodies (1970 - 1982). They'll also be talking about the making of The Goodies Disaster Movie and about the books and the authors that have inspired them.
Sadly, Josie Long is showing off in New York, but there will be a special guest co-host announced soon.
This show is now sold out.
2. Accidentally Preserved: Surviving Slapstick on 16mm Watershed | 9.30am | Tickets: 8.00/6.00
Slapstick comedy shorts were excellent fodder for home movie companies of the 1920s and 1930s. Kodascope and Pathescope rented or sold safety film prints for people to watch in their homes, not realising that decades later they would out-survive the 35mm versions originally in circulation. This programme contains hilarious rare slapstick shorts starring comedy stars whose work has been largely forgotten.
This event has been curated by Ben Model (silent film historian, accompanist and filmmaker) and will be hosted by Goodie Bill Oddie and Infinite Monkey Cage (Radio 4) star Robin Ince.
With live accompaniment from Guenter A. Buchwald.

Bill Oddie issues a plea to keep the painting "Monarch of the Glen" in Scotland |

Real life mirrors a Goodies episode as Bill Oddie issues a plea to keep the painting "Monarch of the Glen" in Scotland - this article appears online at http://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/news/scottish-news/bill-oddies-plea-keep-iconic-9203856
Bill Oddie pleas to keep iconic painting in Scotland as artwork heads to auction
BILL Oddie has issued a plea to the people of Scotland to help keep the famous Monarch of the Glen painting in Scotland.
Bill Oddie pleas to keep iconic painting in Scotland as artwork heads to auction
BY CRAIG MCDONALD
BILL Oddie has issued a plea to the people of Scotland to help keep the famous Monarch of the Glen painting in Scotland.
Monarch of the Glen painting by Sir Edwin Landseer in 1851
He once declared it his favourite painting during a sketch in The Goodies.
And although Bill Oddie admits his tongue was firmly in his cheek, the comic turned conservationist is keen to see Sir Edwin Landseers Monarch of the Glen stay in Scotland.
Drinks firm Diageo, who own the painting, say they are ready to sell it. And it is feared the 10million price tag will lead to the Monarch leaving the country.
The painting featured in an episode of The Goodies in 1971 in which Oddie refused to pay off debt by flogging it to rich Americans despite describing it as a cow standing on top of a hill with big twigs stuck to its head.
The famous artwork has been on loan to the National Museum of Scotland in Edinburgh for the past 17 years. Oddie, 75, yesterday said he hoped a Scottish landowner would thwart potential foreign buyers.
He said: Monarch of the Glen must be one of the most successful paintings in history.
The thought of it going abroad is sad you cant tell me there arent some wealthy estate-owning Scots who couldnt afford to buy it.
It would be nice if it could stay in Scotland or the UK. There arent many paintings which are almost like the national picture.
Its bad enough when any important works go abroad but when its something as iconic as this it would be even worse.
And there is a bit of money in those Scottish glens. The landed gentry in particular could afford it, Im sure.
Recalling the Goodies episode, Oddie joked: Its one of those which I have tried to blank out but I do remember it as set in an art fair.
I described Monarch of the Glen as my favourite painting although Im sure it probably wasnt.
A painting of a cow with sticks attached to its head. It is quite a good line actually Im quite proud of that line.
Oddie gained huge fame in the 70s as one of comic trio The Goodies alongside Tim Brooke-Taylor and Graeme Garden.
He later became a hugely popular presenter on Springwatch and Autumnwatch, the BBCs long-running wildlife series. He was devastated when told in 2008 he wouldnt be asked to do any more of the shows.
The rejection sent Oddie, who had a history of depression, into a downward spiral and he admits he spent much of the year that followed in bed.
He tried to take his own life twice before finally being diagnosed as having bipolar disorder.
He said: I did have a couple of problems a few years ago but Ive recovered and have had no troubles for ages. Thankfully, Im fine now.

Bill Oddie to appear in BBC One show "The Real Marigold Hotel" |
more from same (The Goodies) |
This story appears at http://www.belfasttelegraph.co.uk/entertainment/news/lionel-blair-and-bill-oddie-checking-in-to-the-real-marigold-hotel-35182054.html
Lionel Blair and Bill Oddie checking in to The Real Marigold Hotel
The Real Marigold Hotel is returning for a second series, and moving to BBC One after being a surprise hit for BBC Two earlier this year.
Lionel Blair, Bill Oddie and Amanda Barrie are among the stars jetting to India for a second series of The Real Marigold Hotel.
The programme, based on the 2012 film The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, was a surprise hit for the BBC when it aired earlier this year (16), with Miriam Margolyes and Wayne Sleep two of eight celebrity pensioners sent to explore whether or not they could enjoy a better retirement life in Jaipur.
The BBC Two show attracted more than four million viewers, and became the channel's most popular factual show of 2016 to date.
Now the programme is being recommissioned for a second, four-part series, and being moved to BBC One, with entertainer Lionel, presenter Bill and actress Amanda being joined by actor Paul Nicholas, singer Sheila Ferguson, Dr Miriam Stoppard, snooker player Dennis Taylor and television cook Rustie Lee as they travel to Kochi, South West India.
Charlotte Moore, content boss for the BBC, said in a statement: "The first series was a big hit that connected with viewers in a really heart-warming way. It was entertaining whilst enlightening, celebrating a universal subject
Im looking forward to watching our new cast of characters reach an ever broader audience on BBC One."
And BBC Two editor Patrick Holland insisted the show moving to BBC One will give them more of an opportunity to commission new programmes.
"Who would have thought that a show about retirement would become such a hit with audiences young and old?" he said. "Moving to BBC One means we have space to commission new series like Second Chance Summer, and Life and Death in a Week."
Four cast members from this year's series will be returning to BBC Two, however, for a two-part Christmas special, in which they will travel to Japan and Florida to see how the retirement communities there differ from those in the U.K.

Goodies clips on the TV in the film |

According to this article, if you see the movie "The Conjuring 2" you might spot scenes from "The Goodies" on TVs in the haunted house: http://www.ew.com/article/2016/06/20/conjuring-2-james-wan-goodies
The Conjuring 2 director James Wan explains his love for crazy British TV show The Goodies
Posted June 20 2016 11:22 AM EDT
In between jumping out of their seats at the films supernatural shenanigans, viewers of The Conjuring 2 may find themselves pondering this question: What the hell is that crazy-looking show which keeps turning up on the television in the haunted house of director James Wans London-set terror tale? The answer is The Goodies. Starring Tim Brooke-Taylor, Graeme Garden, and Bill Oddie, this extremely strange 70s-era U.K. series show part sitcom, part collection of surreal sketches was hugely popular in both Britain and in Australia, where Wan was raised.
Oh my god, I love it, says Wan of The Goodies. Pretty much no Americans will have any fing clue what it is. But Im hoping that all my friends over in England will crack up, knowing how big a fan I am of the Goodies. It was between the Goodies and The Young Ones. But theYoung Ones wasnt period correct, so I had to go with the Goodies. Which is great because I love the Goodies. The Goodies and the Young Ones. How amazing were they?

Big Goody News! |

From The recent Network DVD newsletter!
They're Back! - BBC Announcement
The early days of our fledging label saw us rescuing Robinson Crusoe, crossing borders into Communist-state fairyland and presenting some old public information films to a baffled 21st century audience. It all looked just a bit weird on paper. These unusual and now almost library-standard releases led us, inevitably, to ask for more of the same but we instead got The Goodies, Ripping Yarns and Till Death Us Do Part for our troubles.
So now we are almost back where we started, having recently concluded an agreement with the BBC to revisit some of our older releases as well as bring a lot of new material to add to our range. Towards the end of the year and beyond well be releasing complete* series box sets of shows that wed distributed many years ago including 'The Goodies', 'Till Death Us Do Part' and Sykes amongst rarer fare like All Passion Spent and Johnny Jarvis, some Screen Two presentations such as The Vision, bafflingly unreleased classics like The Life And Times Of David Lloyd George and much more.
Well be sharing news on these releases with you as we work through them but youll need to be patient. There are substantial technical and clearance issues to attend to but it is underway as we write. The first titles will appear before the end of the year, hopefully sooner.

To help show the BBC and other UKTV networks. That us fans and comedy lovers really want to watch The Goodies again on TV and DVD.
Please take part in The Goodies UK Audience Survey, that's been devised...
What I have done here is. I have produced a survey of seven simple questions for you answer. And when there are a significant number of responses, I will send this in to the BBC and UKTV GOLD or any television station that gets suggested.
This is more targeted at viewers in the UK. But if you are from abroad feel free to take part anyway.
This survey will also ask about new Goodies DVD's.
As television networks are difficult about these things (particularly the BBC). We need to make sure we get as many TV viewers as possible to fill in this survey as it seems the only way to get our voices across!

At Last the 1948 Show triggered a revolution that was destined to change the face of TV comedy forever. What At Last the 1948 Show began the Monty Python and The Goodies would finish in their own inimitable way. Four lost episodes of At last the 1948 Show have recently been recovered from the David Frost Collection. Here we offer a rare opportunity to watch excerpts from the shows best bits and from some of the newly discovered editions followed by a Q&A as Tim and Aimi discuss this seminal comedy show on stage with presenter Chris Serle.
