Thanks for the info about Tim and smoking. I get the impression that perhaps he did smoke during the '60s, more so during his Cambridge days, but would have given up quite early, certainly before The Goodies. As PunHeaven pointed out, in the Four Yorkshiremen sketch when they're all smoking cigars, Tim doesn't look to be enjoying it all that much. Also, although it may not neccessarily have been the case, it's possible that (if he was ever a smoker) he gave up either when he got married or when his first child was born. I'm guessing quite wildly now, but that's the impression I get.
I think it's pretty safe to conclude that Tim isn't a smoker now. In Humph's 80th birthday programme, a radio special hosted by Graeme, Humph mentions that he can't spend time backstage with the others at ISIHAC because of Barry and Graeme's smoking. No mention of Tim there.
Anyway, I think I've rambled long enough!
One other piece of amusing trivia from the Mark Lawson interview with Bill, in relation to Tim's patriotism, was that Bill once recalled Tim saying he fancied Princess Anne. Heehee!

I think this is the first time I have ever seen June bearing a calendar picture I can stand to look at for a whole month. I love cricket...

' One last thing before I go, once again related to the Bill interview, and that's that they showed some silent footage of the Goodies chatting in some sort of office in what looked like the mid to late '70s. I noticed that Tim looked to have cigarette smoke emerging from behind his leg, where his arm was. Any ideas if Tim is/was a smoker? A silly question, but it made me curious. |
As far as I'm aware, he used to smoke, but doesn't any longer. I've heard him speak about it somewhere (with a rather amusing anecdote), but the mind fails as to where. |

I was listening to 'In Conversation With...' a couple of months ago, and they interviewed Tim. He said something about not doing drugs or smoking when he was younger because of the school he went to. In my opinion, I don't think he smoked. |

I'd never really thought about Tim as a smoker until I saw the Four Yorkshiremen sketch. I got the impression that he wasn't just because he looks like he's trying really hard not to throw up from smoking that cigar. Of course, as far as evidence goes, this is not worth even mentioning. Anyone got any actual ideas?

Those are the cutest bunnies I've ever seen! I got the Pythons Autobiography a while ago. Everyone should read it! Tim in the bowler hat was a good look, too. |

Oh, how I adore The Pythons Autobiography By The Pythons. I love the Pythons and Graham Chapman anyway (I became a big fan before I got into the Goodies), and I find the connection between the Goodies and Pythons very interesting. It's a fun area of British comedy to look into and, yes, The Pythons Autobiography By The Pythons is definitely essential reading if you're similarly interested in the Pythons and that era of comedy.
Here's some lovely pics of Tim and Bill as the bunnies:

Lastly, a very nice pic that was shown on the Mark Lawson interview with Bill the other day. A fair amount of dcotoring was involved because it was taken off the TV screen with my digital camera so it was quite pixelated, and you could also see my reflection! As such, the background, which was once a pale grey, is now black. It's a picture I haven't seen before, so I hope it's new to you too:

I have to say the 70s do was quite nice on Tim but I really did like the shorter hair.
I have just spent the last few minutes flicking through The Pythons Autobiography By The Pythons (It's practically my Bible!) and there are some very lovely pics of Tim in the early days - and one with a bowler hat! Very striking, it looks very nice on him. There are also some pics of Bill and Graeme from the ISIRTA days and Barry Cryer and pretty much everyone who was anyone in those days.
I'd post a picture of them but I think my scanner's broken or something technologically stupid like that. But I highly recommend the book anyway. I'll see what I can do with the scanner. ---------- "I cannot talk to a man who bears an undeserved animosity towards ferrets." -- Graham Chapman |
