PunHeaven :
' Perhaps a tacky idea, but it would be nice for there to be a section for new members to introduce themselves. As a new poster it's a bit scary trying to jump into a thread with nobody having the slightest clue who you are.
Just a technical note for myself - there seems to be some kind of bug or something that means I can't use my own avatar. I just get a dropdown menu and 'Submit Query' button when I go to the 'Choose your avatar' section in My Account. This is the av I want to use:
Welcome PunHeaven - just jump in - we don't bite - hard !! Bill : I know when I'm licked cos it feels lovely !

PunHeaven :
'That's my problem. I can't find the bit where I'm supposed to do the uploading. All I get is my account info and on the avatar page just a dropdown menu.
Whoops. My bad.
I forgot I disabled the avatar upload script a while back after a security problem was founf in the function, and I never got around to fixing it.
Check back with me in a couple of days.

Hi PunHeaven,
Welcome to the crew.
The simplest solution for introducing yourself, is to just post to the forums, like you've just done. We were all new once, even me and I've been here longer than absolutely everyone else (Yay me).
If you don't want to introduce yourself all at once, there's plenty of topics being discussed throughout the forums, so feel free to answer one that looks interesting to you. People will eventually get to know who you are.
As for the avatar, you need to upload it using the form on your account setting page.
We don't have a facility for using remote images on the site.
Cheers
