Well, I did it. Last night I went and saw the new Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy with a group of friends, including our very own Janice . I went expecting it to be complete and utter (expletive deleted),and instead I was rather disappointed with my initial decision. It wasn't bad at all. Some things were a little out of whack, like the thing about the dolphins in the opening sequence.
A few small gripes, but overall a reasonably well done adaptation of the greatest literary work ever.
Like I said, a few small peeves, Marvin was a little disappointing in design, but lets face it, nobody can complain like Alan Rickman (See Galaxy Quest for proof).
Keep an eye open for the original Marvin costume, t's in there if you look hard enough....
I won't spoil the movie, we all know the basic plot which was kept rather well, if a little strangely interpreted.
All in all, it will never be as good as the original, but it's not a bad adaptation for a more modern audience.
My only complaint about the whole night was that the 24hour Bakery we went to after the movie was all sold out of bee-stings.....
Mood - Relaxed
Music - Moving Pictures - What about me
And let me point out, for anyone reading this, that our own Zaphod is not quite like the one in the movie ...just in case you were wondering! (Although...perhaps...maybe... just a little? Hehe)
And, by the way, I was pretty open-minded about the movie...having not read the books, or seen much of the original series, and found it amusing. It's an off-beat sci-fi...quirky.
Yep Zaph, I was like you. prepared to hate it, but pleasantly surprised. I think part of it was seeing it for free. Not only Marvin but Simon Jones and a picture of dear old Douglas if you know where to look for it......
