Hello all!
I have the quote from 'Life of Graham' about Graeme and Bill and the Doctor scripts. This was said by Bernard McKenna, someone who Graham wrote with quite a lot:
"He always wanted to be higher up the scale than Graeme Garden and Bill Oddie. He felt Graeme Garden and Bill Oddie had betrayed it a bit - he didn't like Bill Oddie at all. He always thought Bill Oddie would put in some easy line. He had respect for Graeme Garden because Graeme was a doctor. But he didn't like their scripts. At the same time he didn't feel there was much of a competition, because he felt he was better - particularly better than Bill Oddie."
Hmmm. Certainly interesting. The book itself isn't that good, it doesn't go into Graham's life in much detail, the ending is very rushed, and any mysterious aspects of Graham's life are just made even more confusing, particularly by Bernard McKenna, who does say some unpleasant things. As such, I took everything he said with a pinch of salt. I don't know if Graham was really that big-headed, I like to think not, he seemed like a very generous person. Take from it what you will, I guess.
Anyway, back to Tim.
Tim does indeed look very, very nice in that pic - it's sweet of you to say that I had an effect, bondy, I think it's the jumper, personally. Wallop! I think we should combine Graeme's love of brown and Tim's love of jumpers and give them brown jumpers for Christmas. *Sigh* Lovely!
*Ahem* check out new journal for Sunderland Clue write up *ahem* *ahem*
I'm so shameless!

Very well. This is from either John Chapman or some other person and I can't really do a direct quote because the book is back at the library. Anyway it was to the effect that Graham thought he was better than B and G. While they were writing 'Doctor in the House' Graham thought that B's lines were kind of 'easy' (and didn't like Bill at all personally) and that went the same for Graybags, although Graham respected him because he was a doctor. And when they left to do the Goodies, it was said that Graham felt the other two had betrayed the show.
That's not in very good English, but it's the jist of what was being said. |
