I'm sure it would have to have been the final scene to be shot in the studio, and if any other scene had to be filmed again then it would have to wait until another day. As Graham Chapman once said in relation to Python (and therefore it'll be applicable to The Goodies too, presumably), they'd be given 90 minutes of studio time and anything running longer than that would cost the show double money, until it reached 2 hours, by which time the crew would pull the plug completely. Given that strict time frame, it would have been impossible for Graeme to have filmed anything beyond being mucked up. It will have been the same in Pucky Business with Tim and the spaghetti sauce, I should imagine.

I looked like black water with funny little lumps in it.  And yeah, I did notice Tim ducking at the black pudding...

(Imagine trying to get treacle - if that's what it was - out of your hair. I once had a hippie hair treatment that involved honey, and I stank and stuck to things for hours.  )
