Thanks to Sosia for posting the following news in the www.goodiesruleok.com forums:
It seems Graeme's been doodling again - this time for the Willow Foundation's Stars on Canvas auction. The website (http://www.willowfoundation.org.uk/starsoncanvas) gives the following details:
The Willow Foundation has teamed up with respected British artist, Julie-Anne Gilburt to hold this colourful and imaginative art exhibition guaranteed to inspire debate and festive fun this Christmas. Each of the 300 small canvases (20cm x 20cm) has been drawn by well-known names from the worlds of sport, design, art, music and entertainment. Some demonstrate the individual’s artistic flair, others their personality or alter ego and the remaining a mix of interests, ideas or lateral thinking.
All the canvases are being auctioned online now. You can browse all the canvases (in alphabetical order) below , or see a summary of the canvases. The online ebay auctions will end on December 6.
A public exhibition of all the canvases is being held at London's SW1 Gallery from December 2 to 6. There will be a preview event on December 3. To purchase tickets please contact the fundraising team by email or on 01707 259777.

The Stage review of Graeme's "Sleeping Beauty" |
more from same (The Goodies) |
Here's another review of Graeme's panto, which is playing at The Theatre in Chipping Norton through January 10th. This is from The Stage (http://www.thestage.co.uk/reviews/review.php/22563/sleeping-beauty):
Sleeping Beauty
Published Monday 1 December 2008 at 11:25 by Peta David
Every year this little theatre produces a great panto and this year is no exception. It is always child-friendly and fully focused on entertaining younger audience members. This is a tale of Sleeping Beauty with a twist in the tail - it features a Prince played by a sprightly Richard Pepper, who arrives on a bicycle to awaken the sleeping princess and explains to the bemused King Couer-de-Loup - played by sword welding Andrew Wheaton - all about the advent of the railways since they have been slumbering.
The princess, played perfectly by Helen Hurd, will not marry the Prince, but after a lot of talk about trains and bicycles and a spot of time in the dungeon, they fall in love and all is right with the world.
Caribosse is played with buckets of wickedness by Kathryn Martin, who has a strong singing voice - which can not be said for poor old Nanny Fanny Chuckabutty, played by Adam Russell-Owen, who scrapes through various songs sounding like he smokes 40 a day. It all adds to his character.
Written by Graeme Garden of The Goodies fame, it takes a while to fill out and is a bit slow in places.

review of Graeme's "Sleeping Beauty" (currently playing in Chipping Norton) |
more from same (The Goodies) |
Graeme was interviewed about his production of "Sleeping Beauty" in today's Oxford Mail. The play will be at The Theatre, Chipping Norton, until Saturday, January 10. Tickets can be purchased from 01608 642350 or http://www.chippingnortontheatre.com/index.php?p=whatson&id=235
FROM http://www.chippingnortontheatre.com/index.php?p=whatson&id=235:
Sleeping Beauty, Chipping Norton Theatre
12:16pm Wednesday 26th November 2008
By Giles Woodforde
There's nothing King Couer-de-Loup likes more than a good battle: "We'll march on King Florizel's wet and wicked army," he proclaims. His Queen is not so sure, however. She would rather her husband stayed around: there's the christening of their daughter Princess Aurora to arrange for a start. And he certainly can't go out and fight looking like that: "Your chain mail's got a ladder in it," she wails.
Thus begins the Chippy panto, Sleeping Beauty. Actually, Graeme Garden's script is not so much a panto as an attractive piece of storytelling, with a bit of panto woven in: there is a dame, engaged to look after the infant Aurora. She is Nanny Fanny Chuckabutty, who arrives complete with a heap of luggage - it would cost her a fortune on Ryanair. But Chuckabutty? Does that mean she gets to throw sandwiches around? No, but she does get the chance to immerse everyone in sticky treacle, in an excellent kitchen scene.
"There are certain things you are too young to understand," King Couer-de-Loup tells his daughter. "But Father, " she replies reasonably enough, "I am 118". Aurora is waking up from the 100-year sleep caused by pricking her finger on a spinning wheel planted by the evil Caribosse.
Aurora (Helen Hurd) has grown up into a feisty and determined young lady, used to getting her own way. Her parents (Andrew Wheaton and Nicki French) are normally mild-mannered, but the King flies into a right royal rage when he learns the name of the handsome prince who seeks his daughter's hand: it's Prince Florizel (Richard Pepper), descendant of King Florizel, Couer-de-Loup's enemy all those years ago.
Of course, it turns out happily - the Florizels have spent a fortune instituting Health and Safety regulations in their private army, we are told, so there will be no more battles.
This is a Sleeping Beauty with a modern twist or two, but the production (director Tim Claydon) concentrates on providing an old-fashioned fairytale atmosphere. It has another old-fashioned virtue too: the whole cast speaks immaculately (including the small Pippins, who could be given more to do). There's a real relish for Graeme Garden's words.
The show looks gorgeous - designer William Fricker has achieved magic on Chippy's tiny stage. Wicked Caribosse (Kathryn Martin) quivers with glittering green venom, and earned lots of booing. Only Adam Russell-Owen's Nanny didn't quite connect with the largely adult opening night audience. Rumbustious panto this ain't, but I suspect that it will go down particularly well with small girls.
Sleeping Beauty continues at The Theatre, Chipping Norton, until Saturday, January 10. Tickets: 01608 642350 or www.chippingnortontheatre.com

Graeme Chips In |
more from same (The Goodies) |
Graeme Chips In Oxford Mail Friday 28th November 2008
Katherine MacAlister chats to ex-Goodie Graeme Garden about penning this year’s panto – and trembling in the wings with first night nerves as the curtain goes up ...
GRAEME Garden looks exactly the same as he has always done, which is quite a feat considering he reached the pinnacle of his fame with the Goodies in the 70s, and he’s now 65. You’ll have seen him regularly since then featuring on comedy shows, radio programmes and TV, most of which he’s written.
But this year it’s the Chipping Norton Panto’s turn and Sleeping Beauty is the project which has had Graeme’s full attention. And with the box office doing record business he’s obviously still got what it takes to make people laugh.
But then, considering one of the Goodies’ biggest hits was The Goodies And The Beanstalk, we are obviously on familiar territory here. “Yes, I suppose so,” Graeme laughs doubtfully, “but it was the Christmas special,” he adds. Graeme actually wrote the script for Sleeping Beauty 25 years ago, but when asked to resurrect his panto, found that it didn’t need much tweaking, proving that comedy is fairly timeless. “Well, children get quite bored with jokes about banks, so all it needed was a bit of polishing and a bit of sprucing up,” he says.
Nevertheless, by the time it got to opening night, Graham was trembling in the wings alongside the actors. “Well you can’t blame anyone else if it goes wrong when you’re the writer,” he explains. “But however tempting it was to retire back to base camp, I couldn’t leave them to go over the top on their own.”
Luckily, Sleeping Beauty has been going down a treat since it opened so Graeme is no danger of being hounded, which is just as well considering he lives nearby and his grand-daughter is coming to see it. “I keep worrying about whether it’s too scary for her, because the princess has a bad spell cast on her and then there is the evil fairy, but none of the other children seemed to have minded so far,” he laughs. “But writing a panto is a serious job. Chipping Norton has a great tradition of panto so you have to do it properly, without relying on a boy band member or famous comedian to get you through. But the cast is fantastic and a panto is the best way to lift the gloom,” he says.
Graeme has got three children, all grown-up now, with his son John being the keyboard player for The Scissor Sisters. His second son is a conceptual artist in Sweden and their sister an assistant headteacher. “They are all used to getting up and performing in front of large groups of people,” Grame says. “But I have to say, with John in the Scissor Sisters, I get asked about him all the time. And yet he spent his entire childhood with people saying ‘isn’t your dad one of the Goodies?’, so now I can sympathise. The boot is on the other foot.”
Sleeping Beauty runs until January 10 at The Theatre Chipping Norton. Box Office: 01608 642350.

Call my Wine Bluff
19 Nov 2008 13:09:27 GMT
Emma Thompson and celebrity friends are inviting wine buffs and wine bluffers to join them at Lincoln’s Inn, London for Call My Wine Bluff, an exclusive evening of wine tasting and laughter on Tuesday 25 November, in support of ActionAid.
Guests will have the chance to test their knowledge of wines from around the world as they compete against each other and the ‘expert’ panel at this event, which has been set up by ActionAid Ambassador and former managing director of Bottle Green, Jerry Lockspeiser.
The audience will taste nine wines in total – one sparkling, four reds and four white wines. These will be tasted blind, one after the other and at the same time as the panel. Members of the audience will listen to humorous stories from the panel and will then vote on the ones they believe to be correct.
In this high-spirited take on the classic TV game show, Call my Bluff, panellists including Emma and other special celebrity guests David Mitchell, Sue Perkins, Sean Lock, Tim Brooke-Taylor and Hugh Dennis, will try to dupe guests into believing a story behind the wines they will be tasting. Clive Anderson will host.
Guests, rival panellists and resident wine experts will use a voting system to guess who is telling the truth. The table with the most correct guesses wins a luxury prize.
Those who manage to snap up tickets to ActionAid’s Call My Wine Bluff will be treated to an exceptional evening of entertainment, a pre-dinner drinks reception and meal.
The evening will also include a live auction of ‘money can’t buy’ items and experiences, raising vital funds for ActionAid’s work with poor and vulnerable people worldwide.
This special evening is perfect for those who want to entertain clients, network or engage in a bit of team building. Tickets are £295 each or £2,500 for a table of 10.

I'm Sorry I Haven't A Clue Mailout 17.11.08 |
more from same (British Comedy) |
The following info is from the official I'm Sorry I Haven't A Clue mailing list.
Dear I'm Sorry I Haven't A Clue Mailing List Member
This is the last mailout of 2008.
Firstly we'd like to tell you that 2 entertain (co-owned by BBC Worldwide) have recently published the long-awaited DVD of I'm Sorry I Haven't A Clue. It was filmed at the Lowry Centre on Sunday 6th April, just ten days before Humph went into hospital. It has been listed at No 1 in the The Independent's selection of 'The Ten Best Comedy DVDs' and Time Out say of it that the team "really are as funny as the sound on the radio; there's no snappy editing here, this is just 100 minute of improvised brilliance". The DVD distributor has arranged a discount of £3.75 to members of this mailing list if you purchase the DVD from the BBC Shop online. Here's how you do it:
1. Log onto the ISIHAC DVD link at the BBC Shop by clicking here:
http://www.bbcshop.com/Game-Shows/Im-Sorry-I-Havent-A-Clue-Live-DVD/invt/bbcdvd2869
2. Keep clicking 'Checkout' until you get the the page saying 'Please sign in' when you add your email address, and if you're not a returning customer, click 'Checkout as guest', or set up an account. It'll then ask you to add some details, address, phone number etc.
3. When you get to the page, 'Order Summary', click on the option 'Redeem a Promotion Code' under the red banner heading saying 'Additional Services'. In the box provided type in the code: ISIHAC08 and click 'Continue'
The £3.75 off your order is as follows: £1.30 is 10% off the DVD which they are currently selling at £12.99 and remaining £2.45 is the price of the postage. The offer expires 31st December - a user can use the code only once - this code is exclusive to the ISIHAC DVD.
Secondly, Random House Books would like you to know that they are offering 'Lyttelton's Britain' (Humphrey's collected opening histories to all the towns and cities we visited during his chairmanship of the show) and Barry and Graeme's new Hamish & Dougal Book as a "2 for 1" offer. It works out a couple of pounds cheaper than Amazon and there are no product codes required. Both are hardbacks. Here's the link:
http://www.rbooks.co.uk/clue2for1
Thirdly, free tickets have just become available for a one-off Christmas Special of 'The Unbelievable Truth', the Radio 4 panel game devised by Graeme Garden and myself, which we're recording on Wednesday 3rd December 2008 at the Shaw Theatre in Euston Road (doors open, recording starts 7.30pm). It's hosted by the excellent David Mitchell, and the panel includes Graeme Garden and Jack Dee. You'll need to order swiftly as there's only 400 available and they'll go quickly. Here's a link:
http://shows.external.bbc.co.uk/help/shows/the_unbelievable_truth
Fourthly, there are two other excellent ISIHAC-related books that would make good Xmas presents. The first is 'The New Uxbridge English Dictionary':
http://www.amazon.co.uk/The-New-Uxbridge-English-Dictionary/dp/0007263937
And the other is: 'Last Chorus: An Autobiographical Medley', a collection of Humph's writings by his son Stephen, which includes many Humph cartoons, photos and some fascinating previously unpublished diaries:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Last-Chorus-Autobiographical-Humphrey-Lyttelton/dp/1906217181
Fifthly, in response to a request by many of you for the date when BBC4 will be repeating the Humphrey Lyttelton Tribute documentary - the latest from BBC4 is that this will now happen on Tuesday 16th December at 8pm.
And finally, Jeremy Hardy has asked me to let you know that he is on tour and hopes you might be able to catch his show at a theatre near you. Here are the dates:
http://www.offthekerb.co.uk/listings/index.php?artist=jeremy_hardy
And that's about the size of it once more. Here's wishing you a very Merry Christmas. We look forward to seeing you once again in 2009.
With best wishes
