"The Goodies: Super Chaps Three" by Andrew Pixley |
more from same (The Goodies) |
As many of you know, television historian Andrew Pixley has been working on a book about "The Goodies" for over a decade. The meticulously researched book is tentatively scheduled for release in early November. It will be published by the archival television preservation society Kaleidoscope to raise funds for themselves and the RNLI.
Here is a blurb about the book from Andrew himself: "The Goodies: Super Chaps Three is an appreciation of "The Goodies" and a look at the professional careers of Tim Brooke-Taylor, Graeme Garden and Bill Oddie up to 1982 when the last new episode of the series aired. Running to 600 pages, the text traces themes and patterns in their earlier work (e.g. "That Was The Week That Was", "BBC3", "At Last the 1948 Show", "Twice a Fortnight", "Broaden Your Mind", "Hark at Barker", "How Late It Is") and then covers the period of "The Goodies" in detail with reference to the show's production, the media coverage, the spin-offs and other projects which the trio undertook at the same time. The legacy of "The Goodies" is then looked at before the appendices offer production details, contextual comments, music listings and merchandise details."
Andrew says that the book will be available for ordering online. We'll let you know when we have details about price and when they'll being taking orders.

Dear I'm Sorry I Haven't A Clue Mailing List Member,

FW: ISIRTA album on CD / boxset of Network DVD releases |
more from same (The Goodies) |
Thanks to Andrew Williams for the following news items!
1. Andrew has spotted an Amazon listing which appears to be a box set of the four Network DVD Goodies sets - the three that have previously been released plus the new set that will be released November 8th. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Goodies-At-Last-40th-Anniversary/dp/B0044EH1FU/ref=sr_1_17?s=STORE&ie=UTF8&qid=1285602094&sr=1-17

Here is the product description from Amazon, which HAS NOT been verified with Network:
"In 1970, the Goodies unleashed their legendary blend of surreal sketches, strikingly topical satire, slapstick and general lunacy on an unsuspecting viewing public. Capturing the irreverent and rebellious flavour of the decade, this phenomenally popular, BAFTA-nominated series spread its mischief over twelve years, nine series and numerous specials, making household names of creators, writers and performers Bill Oddie, Graeme Garden and Tim Brooke-Taylor. This special box set contains 32 hilarious episodes (including the full LWT series) - from a giant white fluffy kitten called Twinkle to a slippery climb up a giant beanstalk, from the ancient Lancastrian art of Ecky Thump to fighting a ban on fun instigated by an all-too-real puppet government, this is television comedy at its undeniable best. This set includes four extensive booklets on the making of these shows by archive television historian Andrew Pixley, alongside a number of special features on the LWT set."
2. Also from Amazon's website is a reissue of one of the original "I'm Sorry I'll Read That Again" albums by BBC Audiobooks: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sorry-Read-That-Again-Vintage/dp/1408468239/ The CD, scheduled for release on 3 Feb 2011, is described as "a facsimile edition of the original 1978 LP of comedy sketches and songs, starring Tim Brooke-Taylor, John Cleese, Graeme Garden, David Hatch, Jo Kendall and Bill Oddie. Taken from the fondly-remembered BBC radio series of the early 1970s, this title features the original artwork and sleeve notes, plus a vinyl-look CD."
If it is correct that this is the 1978 ISIRTA album, that would make it the one released by BBC Records (as opposed to the 1967 Parlophone ISIRTA LP). The BBC album included the tracks: Opening Credits, Full Frontal Radio, Prune Manifesto, Buffers, Critics, Motoring Flash, Quickie, Honours List, News In Welsh, Minority Programmes, Home This Afternoon A Go Go, News Flash, Listening to the Flowers, Opening, Talent Contest, Eddie Waring Impersonation, Sick Man’s Blues, and Taming of the Shrew & Closing Credits.
Details about both ISIRTA LPs (as well as pictures of their covers) can be seen at [url]http://www.thegoodies.info/recs_isirta.html[\url]

Bill Oddie to appear in "The Hairy Bikers' Cook Off" |
more from same (The Goodies) |
The following article appears at http://www.beecareful.info/news/general/entertainment/television/82176-the-hairy-bikers-cook-off-on-bbc-two-daytime.html
The Hairy Bikers' Cook Off on BBC Two Daytime By Jackson Taylor-Davids
The perennially popular Hairy Bikers are back, and they're on a mission to find Britain's best cooking family in a brand new BBC Two Daytime studio show The Hairy Bikers' Cook Off.
Si King and Dave Myers will mix cooking, celebrity chat and their unique brand of entertainment in the 40-part series which goes into production on Monday 27 September at BBC Television Centre. It will transmit daily at 5.15pm on weekdays from Monday 25 October. Each episode will feature foodie challenges for two teams of families fighting for the title of Britain's Best Cooking Family.
Si and Dave know that Britain is packed with families who are mad about cooking: they're not professionals but they've got the skills and knowledge to create some amazing dishes. Above all, they love doing it as a family. Families from across the UK have signed up to take part in the exciting new show, ensuring an eclectic and wide reaching mix of contestants.
Celebrity guests will also join the Hairies for some revealing chat each day: Gavin Henson, Jo Wood, Charles Dance, Julia Bradbury and Bill Oddie are just some of the game guests confirmed to appear so far, all of whom will be cooking up a storm.
The show will be packed with great challenges for the families, from having to create their own unique family favourite dish to mastering a cooking skill that the bikers teach them and creating a simple dish in just seven minutes that families at home can cook along with and serve up by the end of each programme.
The Hairies comment: "We're both thrilled to be back on daily teatime telly. The programme is an exciting mix of extraordinary ordinary families and celebrities who share a common bond of good food and cooking.
"It is a great combo of chat and recipes guaranteed to make you super hungry, with the chance to cook along and enjoy them with us every evening. And if that's not enough to whet your family's appetite, there are also some simple but foolproof kitchen techniques and secrets indispensable to top chefs and fanatical foodies alike and equally useful in your kitchen at home. We're really looking forward to meeting some of our favourite celebrities - and rest assured we'll be giving them a good grilling alongside the teatime chops!"
The series has been commissioned by Liam Keelan, Controller, BBC Daytime, who adds: "It's fantastic to see the Hairy Bikers back on BBC Daytime. Dave and Si's particular brand of humour and warmth as well as their skill in the kitchen will make this a must see for our audience."
The 40x45 minute series is produced by BBC Entertainment in London. The Executive Producers are Alex McLeod and Carla-Maria Lawson.
