I hope you like my new Avatar of a USAAF WW11 P51D Mustang Fighter. The avatar is from a painting done by our very own Janice from a photograph she took of a Mustang taking off at the last Avalon [Victoria, Australia] Airshow. Janice used the photo to provide the basis for her painting and then used one of her Aviation books to provide the example for the nose artwork. The painting and other similar works are amazing in their detail and I cant wait for zaphod to post examples to the site so that you can all examine and enjoy them yourselves. Top work by Janice. Thanks also to my brother for helping me to adjust and then post the painting as my avatar. D-Day Question does anybody know how the word avatar came about?
Thank you for your praise! It wasn't the last Avalon, though. Unfortunately I was unable to get there this year. I haven't actually been since 1999! I went to every one up till then. I'm not sure which one I took the photo at. I actually don't have a copy of the photo anymore. (I don't have most of my Avalon photos anymore - one of those things that happens in life sometimes: you (D-Day) will understand, but I have the negs, so will get more made - at considerable expense!!)
Yes it is called "Shit Happens" or for Ned Kelly [Aussie Bushranger] fans or connected people "Such is Life". Still we are very fortunate to have such a talented and versatile person in our midst, I am itching to share my appreciation of your artwork with other members. D-Day
