The links to the forums are a necessity, as too many people weren't able to use the forums due to it taking so long to load, as for the popup saying you have a message, that's been there since the last major upgrade to the site <mumble mumble> years ago.
Never settle with words when a flamethrower! is much more fun

Quick note to say the changes appearing round the site are noticed and appreciated. The quick forum links are handy (please tell me they're new, not that I've just noticed them!), and today a box popped up to tell me I had a message, which is dead nifty.
