I just tried that, and started a new thread instead! (over in Events, we've now got two called 'ignore this...')

You should see a button marked "Modify" just above any posts you have made. It shoudl be next to the "Quote" button.

How do I edit something I've posted? I'm sure it's do-able, in fact I'm sure I've done it in the past, but can't seem to do it now.
It's a handy feature for dings like me who a) type too fast and don't proof-read properly, b) sometimes explain ourselves really badly and c) post nonsense when we're in rambunctious or peculiar moods, and think back later 'I shouldn't have said that...'
