Further to my earlier message:  Capstick was accompanied by "The Carlton Main/Frickley Colliery Band, the record was released in March 1981 as a double A side with "The Sheffield Grinder"  (whatever that is!), and the single was released by Dingles (SID 27).

Handy thing "The Guinness Book of British Hit Singles"!

The track is called "Capstick Comes Home" by Tony Capstick and it was released in the early 80's.  I'm afraid I don't know the record label.

The track concludes with the words:  "They don't know they're born today!"  A frequent complaint of elderly "Northerners" who think the younger generation has it too soft!

Tony Capstick was (probably still is) a stand-up comic whose routine included  stories about grumbliing old "Northern" men who wore thick raincoats in the middle of summer  and trudged everywhere.

Hope this is of some help.

Hi! I've been looking for a track - it's not really a song but a read over the 'Hovis theme'. I'm not even sure it's the Goodies but I'm trying everything! Basically there's one voice, an older yorkshire male who's retelling life when daily life was hard. Walking miles in the snow with no shoes, not having much food etc. I believe it was released in the charts in the 70's. Any ideas???
