Please excuse my shocking spelling in that previous message (Graeme would be ashamed of me) it should read...That flute use to really irritate me.  I hope i have redeemed myself a little with those corrections.  Sister Anne (my grade 7 teacher) would be please to see how effective her teaching methods were  hehehehe.

Boston Legal, even though it's not British and not a comedy it still has a lot going for it.  Love that quirkiness!

I agree with Python and a lot of the other shows that have been mentioned.  A few other favorites which I don't think have been mentioned yet:

* "Arrested Development" - a really funny and clever American comedy (I know it's aired in the UK; not sure about Australia).

* "People Like Us", both the radio and tv versions

* "The Monkees" (which actually got a passing mention in "Return of the Goodies" as another tv which spawned successful records)

i'm sorry if this doesn't really belong in this category with t.v.shows-it just HAS to be expressed-anything with albert brooks in it.Particularly the movie "mother"Love him ,love it.And of course monty python(anything with michael palin, the loveliest man in the world).

Add another vote for Python.

Add about a quarter of a vote for The Simpsons (because their newer shows are lucky to be a quarter as good as the earlier ones, and the average is sinking fast.....D'OH! )

Now a few I haven't seen mentioned (though at 4:30 am I'm lucky to see anything  )

Warner Bros cartoons

Some Mother's Do 'Ave 'Em (Got the 3 series on dvd and still laugh until I hurt myself watching it)

Marx Bros movies

The Addams Family

Hoges (from back in Paul Hogan Show
days...when he was funny)

Norman Gunston (I hear Kiss are still terrified of him)

Early Mel Brooks (again, from wayyyy back when he was funny)

....Raymond now and then....

(We apologies for the mentioning of R*ym**d in this post, those responsible have been shot)

And probably some others that I can't think of at the moment (mustn't be too many more though if R*ym**d comes to mind...)
