INTRODUCTION
This month has been a very busy one for the club. Don't ask me why but we've received an unbelievable amount of new members. By the end of the month we should have passed the 500 member mark. I'm really thrilled by this and I'd like to take this opportunity to thank all those people who've plugged us on their web sites etc. Here's to at least 500 more members! Now read on...

AUSTRALIAN GOODIES CONVENTION 2000
Yes folks, people are getting excited! This past month I've received stacks of positive comments regarding this idea, it seems you guys really want to make it happen and I believe we can succeed. But what we really need at this stage is even more input. That's right, we need YOU! If you're at all interested in coming to a Goodies Convention in 2000, then please fill out the form below. Remember, if you don't fill out this form, we can't plan the sort of Convention you'd want to attend, at a price you can afford.

I love the idea of having a convention, I'll start saving now! Perhaps others who have been to sci-fi conventions could find out how they were funded??
* EDITOR'S REPLY * That's a great idea Mareka and it would be very useful to find out as much info as possible about past sci-fi and cult TV conventions. Besides how they were funded, it would be nice to know what happened at the convention and what people particularly liked and disliked about them. Just a thought. We raise money for the theatre here by auction, someone usually writes to a celeb and gets an autographed photo or some such thing. I bet someone might buy an autographed picture of Judith Lucy!

US CONVENTION 2000
As mentioned last month a US Goodies Convention has been proposed for 2000. This will be a chance for US members to get together and watch episodes of 'The Goodies' for the first time in far too long. Because of the smaller number of members in the US, the convention would probably not be able to afford to fly in actual Goodies, but a fun time is assured. A suggested site for the convention is Cleveland, Ohio, but F.D. Luchok would love to hear your ideas and comments <luchok@clark.net>.
GOODIES RE-SCREENING CAMPAIGN UPDATE
Besides the huge number of new members in the past month or so, there has been an increase in those people willing to help out and sign our Goodies re-screening petition. We've already collected a large number of signatures, but every signature we can get helps. If you'd like to help with or sign the Australian petition e-mail Alison Bean, <carrot@olis.net.au> or the UK petition Nik Whitehead, <munga@barrayar.demon.co.uk> or the Missouri petition Jamie Evangelista, <ale@townsqr.com>. MORE GOODIES VIDEO RELEASES?

There are some spots where people just aren't going to be able to get their local channel to screen 'The Goodies', therefore we (meaning the entire club) should petition the BBC to start releasing more episodes on video! I'll bet if they got nearly 500 letters or postcards politely begging them to do that, they would at least consider it!
* EDITOR'S REPLY * This is a great idea and we'll definitely be doing something about this, as soon as we find out who the appropriate people to write to are. My guess is BBC Enterprises and I've e-mailed the BBC to confirm this. More next month!
HOMEPAGE HAPPENINGS
My apologises for not getting the homepages updated this month. They will be updated sometime this month and will included heaps of new picture files (including scannings of the covers of various books written by the Goodies) and the Bookpages page, where you can buy books by and about 'The Goodies' and help the club raise money for our Conventions in 2000.

WHERE TO BUY GOODIES VIDEOS IN THE US
This would probably have to be the most frequently asked question by new US members to this club. And recently I discovered that Laughinghouse Video (which is listed in our FAQ as a place to get Goodies videos in the US) no longer exists. But never fear US fans! Jamie Evangelista to the rescue...

I recently found a place which is offering a set of Goodies videos in America. There are two videos, $19.99 (American dollars) each - the episodes included are: 'Kitten Kong', 'Scatty Safari' and 'Scoutrageous', and on the second video: 'The Goodies and the Beanstalk', 'The End' and 'Bunfight at the O.K. Tea Rooms'. The place that's offering them is BRITS:

Thanks to Matthew K Sharp <kirseval@werple.net.au> for letting me know that a 28 page Laugh Magazine special on 'The Goodies', 'I'm Sorry I'll Read That Again', 'Broaden Your Mind' and 'I'm Sorry I Haven't A Clue' will be available from 23rd March. Much of it is written by Matthew (who also wrote the wonderful Goodies Episode Guide) and it contains a detailed guide to each series and lots of photos. TIM GOES WONKAS!

Australians can watch the film 'Willy Wonka And The Chocolate Factory' (based on Roald Dahl's children's novel 'Charlie And The Chocolate Factory') on Friday 21st March on Channel 9. It features a brief, unbilled, cameo by TBT as a flustered computer wizard. And indeed the whole film is quite funny and well worth seeing.
BIRDING WITH BILL ODDIE
Last month we reported that Bill Oddie was presenter of Birding, a TV series on - you guessed it - birdwatching. Birdwatching has been Bill's hobby since he was a child, so he is the ideal host for this six part series currently screening on BBC2 at 8pm on Fridays. Episode 4: 'The East Coast in Autumn - The Mystery of Migration' screens this Friday (14th March 1997) and you can see episodes 5 and 6 ('London and Islay: In Winter' and 'Florida: From Bald Eagles to Donald Duck') in the following weeks.

THE GOODIES APPEAR IN ANOTHER DOCTOR WHO NOVEL???

I gather the Goodies also appear (though probably with different names) in a Doctor Who novel called 'Conundrum' by Steve Lyons. It's set in the "Land of Fiction", where fictional characters are real. In a Who serial from 1969, the Doc & co. went there and met mostly children's book characters. In Conundrum they mostly meet 70s TV characters, thinly disguised for copyright reasons.
RED DWARF COPIES THE GOODIES!

Just thought I'd mention something. I was watching an episode of 'The Goodies' the other day ('Bunfight at the O.K. Tearooms'). When it got to the spot where they're awakened by the rooster crowing and Tim sprays deodorant in one armpit and shaving cream in the other, I was suddenly startled by the realisation that I'd seen that gag before -- but not on 'The Goodies'! I saw it on the very first episode of the sci-fi comedy 'Red Dwarf', when Lister, the hero of the show, is seen spraying something under his arms, then picks up a different bottle and sprays it on his face, thinking for a moment that it's shaving cream, but is surprised to find that it's actually deodorant. He checks under his arms and finds (sure enough) a large amount of shaving cream. You think that it's a coincidence ...or not?
* EDITOR'S NOTE * It could be a coincidence, but then, in an episode of the Australian s(h)itcom 'Hey Dad', Mr Kelly tried to teach Nudge to drive using Simon's body as the car, ala 'The Goodies' episode #35 'The Race'.

THE GOODIES SCENE IN 'NO FUTURE'

I found the Goodies scene in 'No Future'. It's rather fun. It's on pp118-120. Bill joins an anarchist terrorist organisation, and gets killed by the police. Tim idolises the leader of the invading aliens: "The aliens are bringing values that we need to this planet. Values like discipline, leadership..." They also take the piss out of the way the aliens look - the aliens in Doctor Who in the 70s looked like floating bits of silver-paper, because that's what they were.
"Isn't he wonderful?" Tim breathed.
"Wonderful? You don't know what he looks like! Under that he could be a...well, a roast chicken!"

ANSWERS TO LAST MONTH’S QUESTIONS
1. In what way did the Goodies' safari park differ from other safari parks?
ANSWER: All the exhibits were either show business celebrities, or former show business celebrities.
2. What was so unusual about Rolf Harris in "Scatty Safari"?
ANSWER: Two unusual things about Rolf Harris were: 1. The number of his legs was variable. 2. There were more than one of him - and 'they' were able to breed and have offspring.
3. What did the Queen want her subjects to do in "Scatty Safari"?
ANSWER: To rid England of the 'plague of Rolf Harrises'.
4. What were the Goodies' rewards in "Scatty Safari"?
ANSWER: Tim got his wish and married Prince Charles - while Graeme and Bill both received O.B.E.'s. for their efforts.
5. QUOTE OF THE MONTH
This month's quote is an undiscovered classic from episode #71 'Football Crazy', one of the London Weekend Television episodes. It's another brilliant spoof ad, this time a spoof on the Kaliber beer ad, starring Lawrie McMenemy (thanks to Keith Topping <keith@tooon.demon.co.uk> for that bit of info).
