**************
You can make it happen here. Liven up the club with a boffo idea for bob-a-job week. E-mail <enquiries@goodiesruleok.com> with your comments, ideas or suggestions - meanwhile these are the boffo ideas which our club has been working on this month:
WEBSITE POLLS
Last month's poll was a one horse … er cat, race, with Kitten Kong winning by the height of the Post Office Tower(which hopefully fell onto the third-placed Rolf when it toppled over!)
Which of the following would win in a race?
Frankenfido 7 votes
Black & White Beauty 8 votes
Kitten Kong 27 votes
The Giant Dougal 19 votes
Other 7 votes
Rolf Harris 18 votes
Total: 86 votes
This month you can take your pick of which solo Goody project you'd like to see released on DVD. I know that If I Ruled The World like Graeme did, I'd visit Golf Clubs with TBT and skin a Saturday Banana with Bill, but you can Spring(watch) along to the nearest online polling booth and cast your own choice. You know it makes sense!
Tim, Graeme, and Bill each starred in other series after The Goodies. Which would you most like to see released on DVD?
You Must Be the Husband (Tim)
Me & My Girl (Tim)
more from At Last the 1948 Show (Tim)
Body Matters (Graeme)
A Sense of the Past (Graeme)
Bill Oddie Goes Wild (Bill)
Birding with Bill Oddie (Bill)
Springwatch (Bill)
other
I'd prefer something with Rolf Harris

THE GOODIES 40th Anniversary Special Event
Sun 7 November 5pm £10.00/£8.00concs
Venue: Watershed Cinema, Bristol (Box Office 0117 927 5100)
For more than a decade The Goodies were a national comedy phenomenon and one of our most loved comedy teams.
The Goodies TV show attracted viewing figures almost unimaginable today (over 20million on their specials) and they became a household name and bonefide pop stars .
From 1970 until 1982 their anarchic visual humour and insightful scripts delighted audiences young and old and though the series was never repeated in the UK the shows have once again been a attracting new generations with the release of three fast selling DVD releases.
On the eve of their 40th Anniversary Tim, Bill and Graeme join Sir Christopher Frayling to discuss and celebrate their unique comic creations and to receive the award for Excellence In Visual Comedy from Aardman Animations and Bristol's Slapstick Festival. Join us for this unique trip down memory lane with three of Britain's best loved comic performers.
(18th Sep)
An update (again thanks to Graeme!).
The event is now up on the Bristol Silent's website:
Graeme believes tickets will go on sale on Monday Sept 20th.
(21st Sep)
... AND ANOTHER SPECIAL EVENT!
(Lisa Manekofsky – 17th Sep)
Don't forget there's still the fan organized Goodies 40th anniversary event in Manchester the day before as well (initial details at http://goodiesparty.wordpress.com/ ).
(Clair – 30th Sep)
For those who are interested....
Guests and events to be announced soon.
ABC GOODIES ... GOODY GOODY YUM YUM!
Regarding the "Superstar" special, a reviewer on IMDB says:
The 'Maxie Grease Show' is a spoof of the dreadful 'Opportunity Knocks!', starring Hughie Green. Barbara Mitchell's gum-chewing Aussie sounds an awful lot like Germaine Greer in her 'Super Groupie' phase.
(Daniel Bowen – 13th Sep)
AT LAST ... ANOTHER GOODIES DVD RELEASE!
(Lisa Manekofsky – 22nd Sep)
Thanks to Jenny_Gibbon for this link!
Network DVD's website (http://www.networkdvd.net/product_info.php?products_id=1238 ) lists a new Goodies DVD with a UK release date of 8 November, 2010. Entitled "The Goodies: At Last - Back for More, Again" it will contain eight episodes (Cecily, The Music Lovers, The New Office, Goodies Rule - Ok?, Camelot, It Might As Well Be String, 2001 And A Bit and Royal Command) plus a booklet by Andrew Pixley.
Here's the full text from that webpage:
Goodies (The): At Last - Back For More, Again
In 1970, the Goodies unleashed their legendary blend of surreal sketches, strikingly topical satire, slapstick and general lunacy on an unsuspecting viewing public. Capturing the irreverent and rebellious flavour of the decade, this phenomenally popular, BAFTA-nominated series spread its mischief over twelve years, nine series and numerous specials, making household names of creators, writers and performers Bill Oddie, Graeme Garden and Tim Brooke-Taylor.
Celebrating the series' fortieth anniversary, this volume comprises eight of the best episodes - from rescuing kidnapped musicians to defending Camelot (against town planners!), from creating honest advertising to fighting a ban on fun instigated by an all-too-real puppet government, this is television comedy at its undeniable best!
This set comes with a brand-new booklet by archive television historian Andrew Pixley.
Episodes featured: Cecily, The Music Lovers, The New Office, Goodies Rule - Ok?, Camelot, It Might As Well Be String, 2001 And A Bit and Royal Command.

Network have updated their site to show the real DVD cover after earlier displaying a placeholder.
... AND ANOTHER DVD SET!
(Lisa Manekofsky – 28th Sep)
Thanks to Andrew Williams for the following news item!
Andrew has spotted an Amazon listing which appears to be a box set of the four Network DVD Goodies sets - the three that have previously been released plus the new set that will be released November 8th.
Here is the product description from Amazon, which HAS NOT been verified with Network:
"In 1970, the Goodies unleashed their legendary blend of surreal sketches, strikingly topical satire, slapstick and general lunacy on an unsuspecting viewing public. This special box set contains 32 hilarious episodes (including the full LWT series) - from a giant white fluffy kitten called Twinkle to a slippery climb up a giant beanstalk, from the ancient Lancastrian art of Ecky Thump to fighting a ban on fun instigated by an all-too-real puppet government, this is television comedy at its undeniable best. This set includes four extensive booklets on the making of these shows by archive television historian Andrew Pixley, alongside a number of special features on the LWT set."
* Network DVD have confirmed that in addition to the 8 episode DVD "The Goodies: At Last - Back For More, Again" they will also be releasing a repackaged version of the first (2003) DVD (The "Goodies...At Last"). This will include a new booklet by Andrew Pixley!
In addition, also coming on 8 November is a eight disk box set with the previously released UK DVD titles plus the new one ("Back for More, Again").
(30th Sep)
... PLUS ANDREW'S GOODIES BOOK AS WELL!
(Lisa Manekofsky – 30th Sep)
As many of you know, television historian Andrew Pixley has been working on a book about "The Goodies" for over a decade. The meticulously researched book is tentatively scheduled for release in early November. It will be published by the archival television preservation society Kaleidoscope to raise funds for themselves and the RNLI.
Here is a blurb about the book from Andrew himself: "The Goodies: Super Chaps Three is an appreciation of "The Goodies" and a look at the professional careers of Tim Brooke-Taylor, Graeme Garden and Bill Oddie up to 1982 when the last new episode of the series aired. Running to 600 pages, the text traces themes and patterns in their earlier work (e.g. "That Was The Week That Was", "BBC3", "At Last the 1948 Show", "Twice a Fortnight", "Broaden Your Mind", "Hark at Barker", "How Late It Is") and then covers the period of "The Goodies" in detail with reference to the show's production, the media coverage, the spin-offs and other projects which the trio undertook at the same time. The legacy of "The Goodies" is then looked at before the appendices offer production details, contextual comments, music listings and merchandise details."
Andrew says that the book will be available for ordering online. We'll let you know when we have details about price and when they'll being taking orders.
DVD TITLE NAMES
(Lisa Manekofsky – 1st Oct)
I agree that the similar titles are confusing. Here's a breakdown of the UK releases, which I hope is helpful (rather than causing more confusion ;) :
1. "The Goodies - At Last!" 2003 release, 8 episodes, 2 disks, no booklet
2. "The Goodies - At Last A Second Helping" 2005 release, 8 episodes, 2 disks, contains booklet.
3. "The Goodies - The Complete LWT Series" 2007 release, 7 episodes, 2 disks, contains booklet.
4. NEW RELEASE for 8 Nov 2010 - "The Goodies...At Last - Back for More, Again". 8 episodes, 2 disks, contains booklet.
5. NEW RELEASE for 8 Nov 2010 - "The Goodies - At Last! (Repackaged)". A repackaging of the 2003 release. Slated to include a booklet (which the original did not have). We don't know if there will be any other difference from the 2003 release.
6. NEW RELEASE for 8 Nov 2010 - "The Goodies - At Last the 40th Anniversary!" 8 disks. This will be a slipcase with the four sets that were released separately. Presumably this will be "The Goodies - At Last! (Repackaged)" (#5 instead of #1), "At Last A Second Helping" (#2), "The Complete LWT Series" (#3), and "At Last - Back for More, Again" (#4). Each of these individual 2 disk sets contained within the slipcase should have its own booklet specifically for that set.
FAN MESSAGES
(Lisa Manekofsky – 7th Oct)
The Goodies are celebrating their 40th Birthday in November. Fans can submit messages to be included on anniversary cards for Tim, Graeme and Bill by emailing goodies40thanniversarycards@gmail.com Please specify if the message is for a particular Goody or all three of them.
POINTS OF VIEW
(Lisa Manekofsky – 7th & 11th Oct)
Fan Richard Sleeman recently posted on BBC One's "Points of View" website, asking about plans for The Goodies 40th anniversary. This resulted in his being contacted by the show and asked to provide a brief video, which will be aired on tomorrow's edition (http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00vct6l ).
Here's the info directly from Richard himself:
"Just to let you know that there will be a feature on The Goodies on tomorrow's (Oct 10th) edition of BBC1's Points of View @ 16:15 regarding what they are going to do for the 40th anniversary including a 30 second piece to camera from me. I wonder what they have to say on the subject."
Hopefully fans in the UK can provide a report for the rest of us after the show airs.
-----
According to the 10 October edition of "Points of View", BBC Television has no plans to mark The Goodies 40th anniversary. We suggest fans in the UK call/write/email the BBC to express their displeasure.

Goodies go under the hammer
Published Date: 19 September 2010
By Unknown
Items from The Goodies went to bidders from across the world at an auction hosted by show creator Bill Oddie.
The star was at Tring Market Auctions on Saturday to flog some of his memorabilia as part of BBC show Cash in the Celebrity Attic.
Joined by presenter Angela Rippon and antiques expert John Cameron, he raked in around £1,350 for the International Primate Protection League.
The most expensive item - a shooting script from The Goodies and The Beanstalk and VHS tape of the first episode - went under the hammer for £550 to a pre-sale bid from a fan association in Australia.
The Goodies vinyl records also were bought for £240, almost double the sale estimate, by an American bidder.
BBC spokesman Sally Kent said: "Our expert speculated it could have been down to the unique nature of one of the records.
"It contained a novelty song written by Bill before he joined The Goodies, concerning the 1966 World Cup, but it was never released."
She added: "We filmed at Tring a couple of times last year and were made to feel welcome, so we have been looking for an opportunity to return."

I'M SORRY I HAVEN'T A CLUE (ISIHAC) and
I'M SORRY I'LL READ THAT AGAIN (ISIRTA)
Thanks to Andrew Williams for the following news item.
From Amazon's website is a reissue of one of the original "I'm Sorry I'll Read That Again" albums by BBC Audiobooks: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sorry-Read-That-Again-Vintage/dp/1408468239/ The CD, scheduled for release on 3 Feb 2011, is described as "a facsimile edition of the original 1978 LP of comedy sketches and songs, starring Tim Brooke-Taylor, John Cleese, Graeme Garden, David Hatch, Jo Kendall and Bill Oddie. Taken from the fondly-remembered BBC radio series of the early 1970s, this title features the original artwork and sleeve notes, plus a vinyl-look CD."
If it is correct that this is the 1978 ISIRTA album, that would make it the one released by BBC Records (as opposed to the 1967 Parlophone ISIRTA LP). The BBC album included the tracks: Opening Credits, Full Frontal Radio, Prune Manifesto, Buffers, Critics, Motoring Flash, Quickie, Honours List, News In Welsh, Minority Programmes, Home This Afternoon A Go Go, News Flash, Listening to the Flowers, Opening, Talent Contest, Eddie Waring Impersonation, Sick Man's Blues, and Taming of the Shrew & Closing Credits.

Dear I'm Sorry I Haven't A Clue Mailing List Member,
After the success of our 'not for broadcast' Theatre Tours in 2007, 2008 and 2009 (all complete sell-outs), we're planning another Official Theatre Tour of 'I'm Sorry I Haven't A Clue' in November and December this year, to be hosted again by the excellent Jack Dee. The Autumn series of 'I'm Sorry I Haven't A Clue' on Radio 4, which usually transmits in the run up to Christmas, is going to be broadcast slightly later this year - we expect the first transmission to go out after Christmas. This will mean the three recording dates will be later also-from late November 2010 to mid January 2011. I expect to be able to notify you of the precise dates towards the end of October.
Finally, I'd like to introduce you to Bethan Bide, who will be running this mailing list from now on. Instead of your message sitting unanswered for weeks, Bethan is now on hand to ensure you receive a swift response to any question you might have. Apart from a great charm and a formidable brain, Bethan is blessed with youth, and with it an understanding of all the modern forms of communication about which, up till now, we Clue lot have been, appropriately, clueless. Bethan is pleased to announce that the most up-to-date ISIHAC information and exclusive content from the teams can now be found by following us on Twitter. Search for 'ISIHAC' or follow us @ISIHAClue, where Bethan is tweeting about the forthcoming Theatre Tour, and Graeme Garden is tweeting about The Goodies 40th Anniversary and his recent weekend in Wales. We already have nearly 5000 followers. And if that isn't enough to take in, we're also on Facebook. Search for 'I'm Sorry I Haven't A Clue'. You can see some nice photos of our Tour show hosted by Rob Brydon at the Royal Festival Hall in June.
That's about it for now. We do hope to see you at one of our forthcoming shows.
With best wishes
