GOODIES DVD PETITION

A fan effort (by Jeff, Steve & Jane) to get more Goodies DVD released is underway. Please sign this petition (right away, if possible) and spread the word to your friends: http://www.petitiononline.com/2010gds/petition.html
More than 2500 fellow Goodies fans have signed it already, so please give it your full support too.

CALLING ALL EXPATS …!
(Lisa Manekofsky – 29th Apr)

I was contacted by a writer for the (UK newspaper) Daily Telegraph's expat webpages, regarding overseas fandom. I gave him the info he requested about GROK and told him about the petition, in the hopes he could mention it in his article.

The article came out today:

It doesn't explicitly mention the petition but does give a link to GROK's homepage on which the petition is currently the top news item. Can't hurt!

Here's a cut & paste of the relevant paragraph:

And it’s not just today's programmes that inspire these communities. The Goodies Rule - OK! with more than 5,100 members, is a group that mobilises an international fan base demanding that new Goodies DVDs be released, arranging conventions in Australia and advertising regular meetings for its members. Almost 30 years after the last show was filmed, The Goodies have 50,000 Facebook fans in Australia, USA, the Middle East and elsewhere.

WEBSITE POLLS

Last month's poll examined how to clean up the world's financial mess Goodies-style and it seems that getting Graeme's clever-clogs computer on the job would be the most efficient solution, even if setting Kitten Kon onto those greedy financial fat cats would be far more fun.

How could The Goodies solve the international financial/banking crises?
- Graeme's computer runs the world economy   43 votes
- change gold standard to cream standard     13 votes
- Radio Goodies spreads financial advice      7 votes
- set Kitten Kong on naughty bankers         24 votes
- donate Funky Gibbon profits to nation       3 votes
- Masked Scout's 1 million bob a job plan    21 votes
- other                                       0 votes
- charge not to release "Best of Rolf" CD    11 votes
Total:                                      122 votes

At this stage there is no poll up on the website for May, but keep checking regularly as it could be there "any minute now". You know it makes sense!

BILL SPOTTINGS

* Fri, 16 Apr: The episode of "Who Do You Think You Are?" featuring Bill will be repeated on Blighty at 10:00 and again at 14:00 and 20:00.
(15th Apr)

* Sat, 24 Apr: "Outtake TV" includes a clip of Bill from one of his nature-related appearance. The show airs on Watch at 12:15 and 20:00; each showing repeated an hour later on Watch Plus 1.
(15th Apr)

* Sat, 25 Apr: "The Green Balloon Club" repeat on CBeebies at 17:00 includes an appearance with Bill as he and Jelly " go on a bug hunt to see what they can discover in [Bill's] garden."
(15th Apr)

* Catching up on a couple of Bill nature related news stories from last week.

1. An article from Country Life (http://www.countrylife.co.uk/news/country/article/450439/Take-part-in-free-dawn-chorus-events.html ) mentions that Bill, in his capacity as vice president of The Wildlife Trusts, recommends the International Dawn Chorus Day events (to be held on May 2nd) as "great ways to hear more specialist species, such as his favourite, the grasshopper warbler, which 'sounds like a fishing rod being reeled in. Listen out for it on the edges of damp, grassy fields or reedbeds'."

2. A Belfast Telegraph article about David Bellamy (all together now - "Bellamy!" ;) mentions that he used to go to the Shetlands every year with Bill Oddie and clean up the foreshore.
(20th Apr)

* According to an interview with BBC Director of Television Jana Bennett in The Mirror.co.uk, ""Bill Oddie is also going to come back to do a new wildlife programme. He has a huge following and has a lot to offer."
The full interview is at:
(23rd Apr)

* According to the BBC 2 website (http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00sd95t ), Bill Oddie will be presenting a series of three wildlife countdowns for the channel.
The first is "Frights and Delights" on Thursday, 6 May at 20:00 (note there's a 5 minutes earlier start on BBC 2 in Scotland and Wales).
Here's a listing: "Can we honestly say we feel the same about all creatures great and small? Bill Oddie challenges the reputations of some of the UK's best known creatures and counts down what he considers the UK's 10 most frightful and the 10 most delightful animals in a light-hearted guide to those creatures we either love or hate. The results are not without a few surprises and comedy twists."
The second show will be "Bill Oddie's Top Ten Aliens" on May 13th at 20:00.
(Ooh, how I wish he could include a reference to The Goodies "U-Friend or UFO" episode! ;)
(30th April)

* The Daily Mail featured an interview from May 1st in which Bill Oddie talks about being diagnosed as being bipolar. The interview, which explains his struggles over the last year as well as his recovery (and which also includes a nice photo of Bill with his wife Laura and two of his grandchildren) can be found at: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-1270002/Bill-Oddie-I-wanted-end-I-I-Bipolar.html?ito=feeds-newsxml
(7th May)

* Also, a reminder that the first of three episodes of "Bill Oddie's Top 10", "Frights and Delights" airs today in Britain on BBC Two at 20:00. Next week's episode (on 13 May) is "Bill Oddie's Top 10 Aliens"; here's a listing: "How much of our British wildlife is not actually British? Whether we realise it or not, a large proportion of our flora and fauna doesn't really belong here. These are Britain's aliens, introduced here from far away. Bill Oddie's mission is to count down what he considers to be the ten most welcome and the ten least welcome of these aliens. As ever, Bill's top ten results are likely to surprise or even shock."
(7th May)

GRAEME SPOTTINGS

(15th Apr)

* Fri, 23 Apr: "Whose Line is it Anyway?" on Dave at 11:00 is a repeat of the first series episode with Graeme.

5. GOODIES CROSSWORD PUZZLE
***************************
(by Brett Allender)

Here's a new Goodies crossword for fans of the superchaps three to puzzle over.

As with my previous crosswords, if you're not familiar with a number of the Goodies episodes listed, the information in my Goodies Episode Summaries (in the "Articles/Guides" section) should help you solve the clues.

There is also a copy of the grid and clues in a print-friendly Word format in the "Articles/Guides" section of the website at http://www.goodiesruleok.com/articles.php?id=88&page=9  along with the solution on a separate page. The solution will also be printed in next month's newsletter.
