Renowned twitcher and former Springwatch presenter Bill Oddie is to share his passion for the natural world at an RSPCA wildlife centre open day.
RSPCA Mallydams Wood in Fairlight, near Hastings, East Sussex opens its doors for its annual open day on Sunday, August 15.
As well as being the centre's biggest fundraising event of the year, it's also a great opportunity to visit and find out all about the important wildlife rehabilitation and educational work which is carried out there.
Bill Oddie praised the educational work done at Mallydams saying:
Ever since I can remember I have been saying how important it is to educate youngsters because they are the grown-ups of tomorrow, they are going to inherit this world.
Family day out There will be entertainment for all the family with storytelling, face painting, raffle, games and activities for all ages.
In addition, there will be a variety of woodland crafts, bric-a-brac and charity stalls as well as plenty of refreshments.
The Gizmo Kids will be on site, performing two shows of contemporary songs and dances, and walks and trails will be marked out in Mallydams Wood.
Centre manager Bel Deering said:
We'd love to see all our supporters at the open day and also meet some new ones. It is brilliant Bill will be here to share his passion for nature and we hope to get him exploring the creatures found along many woodland trails.
As well as rehabilitating wildlife, it is important to us to play an educative role by sharing our work with the public and in teaching people about wildlife.
Above all, the day is about demonstrating the work that we do and having fun for a good cause.
The centre's gates are open from 10am until 4pm. There will be ample free parking up the road in Mountain Field, Peter James Lane as well as disabled spaces actually at the centre.
