RSS Feed problem |
more from same (Website) |
Seems we have a problem with the RSS feed for the site. I'm looking into it and hopefully it will be resolved shortly
Apologies for the interruption.
And now, A walk in the Black Forest .....
UPDATE: OK, the problem has now been resolved, turns out that there were some extraneous characters (quite shady looking as well) loitering around in our news articles, which caused the RSS feed to cower in fear and not work anymore.

Humphrey Lyttelton autobiography to be published in October |
more from same (British Comedy) |
"Last Chorus: An Autobiographical Medley" by Humphrey Lyttelton is scheduled to be published on October 25th.
Amazon's listing for the book can be found at http://www.amazon.co.uk/Last-Chorus-Autobiographical-Humphrey-Lyttelton/dp/1906217181/
An article at Bookseller.com gives more details about the book, including the fact that Humph's son Stephen has been involved in putting it together:
Encore for 'Humph' 14.08.08 Catherine Neilan
JR Books is publishing the "ultimate" Humphrey Lyttelton book, drawing on a collection of diaries, letters, caricatures, cartoons and photos spanning 50 years.
Last Chorus by Humphrey Lyttelton will be published in hardback in October priced £18.99. The book chronicles the life of the jazz musician and former chair of BBC Radio 4 comedy panel show "I'm Sorry I Haven't A Clue". Lyttelton died in April aged 86.
Jeremy Robson, publisher at JR Books, described the collection as "absolutely captivating and a real treasure trove". He added: "The diaries, beautifully written in his own fine hand and often very revealing, are a work of art in themselves."
The 400 to 500-page book takes readers from his childhood as the son of an Eton housemaster and his time in the Army, through to his life as a jazz musician playing with legendary figures such as Louis Armstrong and Duke Ellington, and his many years on the Radio 4 comedy quiz show. As well as hosting "I'm Sorry I Haven't A Clue", Lyttelton was also the host of BBC Radio 2's "The Best of Jazz" for more than 40 years.
"He was an absolutely wonderful writer—not a comma needed changing," said Robson. "I have been working closely with Humph's son Stephen on a daily basis, sifting and organising the material into what we see as the ultimate Lyttelton book. It is a real privilege to be publishing it."
Robson said the book would offer a rare glimpse into Lyttelton's life."What has been touching since he died is that thousands of people have been sending messages to the website, many of them quite young. They all talk as if they knew him, and [Stephen] feels this book is a way of knowing him for more than just being on the radio."

Bill endorses Fair Island observatory fundraising project |
more from same (Bill's Nature Shows) |
As explained in the following articles, Bill is endorsing a fundraising appeal for a bird observatory on Fair Isle. (To read the second article use the "click here for more" link below.)
From http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/scotland/north_east/7558413.stm :
Island in £4m bid for twitchers A fundraising appeal has been launched for a new bird observatory on Fair Isle, one of the UK's most remote inhabited islands.
The National Trust, which owns the island, said the existing facility had attracted visitors for 60 years and was the lynchpin of its economy.
The Fair Isle Bird Observatory Trust said it needed to raise £1.5m for the new building, which will open in 2010.
Shetland Islands Council has pledged more than a quarter of the £4m cost.
'Ornithological mecca'
Hundreds of bird watchers travel to the island off Shetland every year to observe migrating birds.
The bird observatory there is known to ornithologists around the world and is famous for its rare bird migrants and spectacular seabirds.
Bill Oddie, a regular visitor to the observatory, gave his backing to the fundraising campaign.
"Fair Isle is one of my favourite birding locations," he said.
"I first went as a schoolboy, a visit to my ornithological mecca - I've been back many times and seen some cracking rare birds.
"I encourage everyone to donate generously and help build the new observatory and I hope to be one of its first birding visitors."

Bill's autobiography: updated details |
more from same (The Goodies) |
Judging from the image of the cover now available on Amazon's website (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Autobiography-Bill-Oddie/dp/0340951923/), Bill's autography (scheduled to be published Sept. 4th) is to be entitled "Bill Oddie: One Flew into the Cuckoo's Egg".

Here's the current description from Amazon:
Whose first records were produced by George Martin, and who had two singles banned by the BBC? Who earned rare reviews on Broadway for his dancing? Who rode on the back seat of the Goodies trandem? Who has been called "Britain's best-known birdwatcher"? Who had his first clinical depression in his 60th year, and has only just discovered why? Who has written an autobiography that is as witty, candid and unconventional as the man himself? The answer to all of the above is Bill Oddie .
