Autumnwatch and the Bournemouth Daily Echo |
more from same (Bill's Nature Shows) |
Autumnwatch with Bill Oddie returns next Monday (27 October) from Brownsea Island. According to this article on its website, The Bournemouth Daily Echo is planning "lots of coverage - including an interview with Kate Humble and Bill Oddie in Saturday's weekend Magazine and exclusive video of Kate and Bill on Brownsea." We'll keep an eye on the website; if you get the newspaper let us know if you spot any articles (especially those that don't appear in the online edition).

Note that the newspaper is seeking images and videos that sum up autumn for you - visit the article at the link above for details on posting your photos/videos.

"Humph in Wonderland" CD |
more from same (British Comedy) |
Yet another "I'm Sorry I Haven't A Clue" item to add to your holiday shopping list - The "Humph in Wonderland" special, which was originally broadcast on Christmas 2007, is scheduled to be released on CD on November 13th. Note that the CD will include an extra 20 minutes of bonus material not heard in the broadcast.
Here's the blurb from Amazon (at http://www.amazon.co.uk/Im-Sorry-Havent-Clue-Wonderland/dp/1408426005/): "The "I'm Sorry I Haven't a Clue" team present their unique take on "Alice in Wonderland" in this BBC Radio 4 special. "Humph in Wonderland" stars chairman Humphrey Lyttelton in the title role, with Tony Hawks as the Narrator, Sandi Toksvig as the Queen of Hearts, Tim Brooke-Taylor as the Duchess, Graeme Garden as the Cook and Barry Cryer as Humpty Dumpty, Andy Hamilton also features as the Caterpillar, with Rob Brydon as the Mad Hatter, Jeremy Hardy as the March Hare, Jack Dee as the Cheshire Cat and Colin Sell as the White Rabbit. Among the fun and games are: Mornington Crescent, Swanee Kazoo, Cheddar Gorge, new definitions for the "Uxbridge English Dictionary", as well as Recipes for Nigella Lawson's "Saucy Mouthfuls" (she makes a great sticky tart). Including 20 minutes of bonus material not heard on transmission, this thoroughly daft take on Lewis Carroll is also a fitting tribute to the late, and much-missed, Humphrey Lyttelton."

tickets for Graeme's "Sleeping Beauty" |
more from same (The Goodies) |
Tickets are now available for "Sleeping Beauty by Graeme Garden", to be presented at The Theatre Chipping Norton from Tuesday, 18 November through Saturday, 10 January. Details can be found at http://www.chippingnortontheatre.com/index.php?p=whatson&id=235 The Box Office can be reached at 01608 642350 (Mon to Fri 10am - 6pm, Sat 10am - 2pm).
The website also lists an event called "Afterwords" on Wednesday 26 November 1.30pm; it is described as "a free informal question and answer session with the cast after the show." I've no idea whether Graeme, as author, will be taking part in the Q&A. The website says to contact the Box Office for more information and to book.

news from the official I'm Sorry I Haven't A Clue mailing list |
more from same (British Comedy) |
The following message was sent to the official I'm Sorry I Haven't A Clue mailing list by the show's producer, Jon Naismith.
I believe the offer from Preface books may only be open to people with addresses in the UK and the Republic of Ireland.
*********************************
Dear I'm Sorry I Haven't A Clue Mailing List Member,
I bring further programme-related news. The next series of the show will transmit on Monday 15th June 2009 on Radio 4 at the usual time of 6.30pm. I won't know the precise recording dates until well into the New Year, and will of course let you know the details as soon as they are confirmed.
Meantime, there are various ISIHAC-related items that you may want to rush out and purchase:
1. Lyttleton's Britain. This book is the complete collection of Humph's introductions to all the places we visited over the past seventeen years or so, written by Iain Pattinson and collected in gazetteer form. It contains a fair amount of previously unbroadcast material. It was published on 9th October and is already number 35 in the non fiction book chart. Click on this link to read all the blurb and see some sample pages from the book: http://www.prefacepublishing.co.uk/books.asp#lytteltonsamples and to see a PDF image of the dust jacket, you can click on this link: http://www.prefacepublishing.co.uk/downloads/lyttelton_b_format.pdf
As I mentioned in the last mailout, the publishers Preface are offering a special discount to subscribers to this mailing list. If you click on http://www.chairmanhumph.co.uk/ you can order a copy of Lyttelton's Britain at 35% off the retail price, which I'm told is cheaper than Amazon. All you have to do is click on 'pre-order now' and enter the promotional code 'Lyttelton' before purchasing, and the price will amend to £9.74 plus £2.75 postage, so £12.49 in total. I'm told it doesn't amend the price straight away - not till just before you complete your order.
2. The New Uxbridge English Dictionary. This is a follow up to The Uxbridge English Dictionary, the very popular first collection of 'new definitions' from I'm Sorry I Haven't A Clue, and is beautifully illustrated throughout. It contains new definitions by the ISIHAC regulars, with additional contributions from Rob Brydon, Jack Dee, Stephen Fry, Andy Hamilton, Jeremy Hardy, Tony Hawks, Ross Noble and Sandi Toksvig. Here's a link: http://www.harpercollins.co.uk/Contents/Title/Pages/default.aspx?objId=38997 The book is just £4.62 on Amazon, and Tim wanted me to point out that it is described by one reviewer as "the funniest book I have ever read".
3. The Doings of Hamish & Dougal - You'll Have Had Your Tea, by Barry Cryer and Graeme Garden. This is a collection of the complete scripts to the popular Hamish and Dougal radio series, with accompanying photos and captions. Here's the Amazon link to this: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Doings-Hamish-Dougal-Youll-Have/dp/1848090234/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1224253545&sr=8-3
4. I'm Sorry I Haven't A Clue - Live On Stage. This is a DVD of the Tour show filmed at the Lowry Centre in Salford on 6th April 2008, just ten days before Humph went into hospital. It features the regular team of Tim, Barry, Graeme and Humph with Jeremy Hardy. And Colin on the piano of course. It contains nearly 2 hours and 12 minutes of material, and is a priceless souvenir for all fans of Humph and the show. It will be published on 10th November. I am negotiating with BBC Worldwide to see if they can do a discount price for members of the mailing list. I will send further details when I have them.
Finally, many of you have asked when the BBC4 tribute to Humphrey Lyttelton is going to be repeated. BBC4 tell me that they are thinking it will be in the run-up to Christmas, but don't yet have an exact date. I will of course let you know the details of this when I have them.
With best wishes
