article about Kaleidoscope event |
more from same (The Goodies) |
The following article about this weekend's Kaleidoscope event mentions the showing of the newly recovered Goodies footage.
From http://www.stourbridgenews.co.uk/news/5039200.Famous_Five_stars_to_reunite_in_Stourbridge/ :
Famous Five stars to reunite in Stourbridge 3:30pm Wednesday 3rd March 2010
TWO of the original Famous Five are set to meet again for the first time in 30 years in Stourbridge.
Marcus Harris and Gary Russell, the actors who played adventurous brothers Julian and Dick, will be brought together for a day of nostalgic television heaven taking place this Saturday (March 6) at the Talbot Hotel in the High Street.
The event, organised by Midlands-based organisation Kaleidoscope, will also include vintage performances by Bob Monkhouse, Eric Sykes and Kenneth Williams.
Kaleidoscope's Chris Perry says it has been a real coup for the voluntary-run TV research group - which has an archive in Dudley and holds regular screenings in Stourbridge - to get stars of The Famous Five to come along.
He said: “For a generation of children, the well-remembered 1970s Southern Television series was a wonderful introduction to Enid Blyton's classic characters.
“I have fond memories of the TV adventures of George, Julian, Dick, Anne and Timmy the dog. Now the cast that brought them to life are back, reunited on stage for the first time in over 30 years.
“I'm sure the audience will be as delighted as we are to see them.”
Writer Gail Renard, who adapted Blyton's stories for the screen over two series between 1978-9, will be joining actors Marcus Harris and Gary Russell at the event.
Sci-fi fans will best know actor-turned-author Russell from his work as a script editor and director on the new series of Doctor Who.
As part of a packed schedule, a classic episode from The Famous Five will get a rare showing on the day.
An edition of cult quiz show The Golden Shot and long-lost footage from The Goodies will also be aired.
Chris said: “This is a genuine UK premier. Recently, sketches from two early episodes of The Goodies were recovered in Australia. They'd been cut from the show and subsequently lost until now.
“Though brief, the footage is both fascinating and hilarious to watch, with stars Graeme Garden, Tim Brooke-Taylor and Bill Oddie on top form.”
Also appearing at the event, which runs from 12pm to 7pm, is Steve Bryant of the British Film Institute and veteran TV producer and director Paul Stewart Laing.
Laing began his career as a cameraman and went on to work with all the greatest artistes on New Faces, London Night Out, Wednesday at 8 and many others before becoming director of programmes at TSW.
He will be bringing along some curios from his own archives, including the unaired pilot of an ITV show deemed too risqué for broadcast.
Entry to the event is free, but all donations will go to Kaleidoscope's chosen charity, the Royal National Lifeboat Institution.

-----Original Message----- Dear I'm Sorry I Haven't A Clue Mailing List Member
This is to bring you news of a memorial concert for Humphrey Lyttelton on the evening of Sunday 25th April at the Hammermsith HMV Apollo, which is being organised by Humph's son Stephen, who has set up a charitable fund in his father's name to assist talented young jazz musicians. The concert will serve both as a memorial to Humph and a fund-raiser for the charity, which will operate in conjunction with the Royal Academy of Music's jazz department. The team from 'I'm Sorry I Haven't A Clue' will be taking part, and tickets go on sale on Monday 1st March. You are advised to book early to avoid disappointment!
Here's how the concert describes itself:
Humphrey Lyttelton - A Celebration Concert Launching The Humphrey Lyttelton Royal Academy of Music Jazz Award Sunday 25th April HMV Apollo
The life and work of Humphrey Lyttelton, jazz musician and broadcaster, is celebrated in a unique concert that brings together band members, guest musicians and the I'm Sorry I Haven't A Clue team for an evening of jazz and joviality that will raise funds for the Humph Trust.
Never one to revel in his own popularity, Humph got tremendous joy from encouraging and assisting the work of young jazz musicians. The aim of the Trust will be to build on this legacy by supporting and developing the careers of budding new talent.
The Humphrey Lyttelton Royal Academy of Music Jazz Award Humphrey Lyttelton championed jazz music in the United Kingdom for his entire career. Having a more prominent position in the jazz scene than almost all other jazz musicians in the UK, this was clearly beneficial to an often under publicised form of music.
There is a lot to be proud of in jazz music coming out of the UK these days and The Royal Academy of Music has produced many of the exciting new wave of talented jazz artists on the current national/international scene.
"At the age of 15, I met Humph for the first time on a concert and his enthusiasm and encouragement had a profound effect on me, inspiring me to practise and also to feel part of a tradition and lineage. I was also even more pleased, when meeting Humph over subsequent years, that he always asked me how I was getting on and showed genuine interest! It is therefore a great pleasure to see this award set up in Humphrey Lyttelton's name at the Academy, to help create support and guidance into jazz for future generations of players." Gerard Presencer, Head of Jazz, Royal Academy of Music.
The Concert The line up for the evening features a glittering array of musicians and comedians paying tribute to Humph.

Bill Oddie narrating Jordans Muesli ad |
more from same (The Goodies) |
Bill Oddie is providing a voiceover for a new advertisement for Jordans Muesli cereal. The ad can be seen at:
http://www.campaignlive.co.uk/channel/FoodDrink/article/984296/jordans-muesli-rolls-tv-ad-natural-push/
Here's a cut & paste of the article at that page:
Jordans Muesli rolls out TV ad for natural push by Joe Thomas, campaignlive.co.uk, 16 February 2010, 3:25pm
LONDON - Jordans has launched a TV campaign to highlight the natural ingredients used in its muesli range.
The ad, created by VCCP, uses a voiceover from the famous bird spotter, Bill Oddie, and focuses on the natural ingredients used in the cereal. Oddie acts as a guide in the ad, as the viewer is taken through a tour of a country scene through binocular vision.
It shows ingredients being brought to life, such as hazelnuts, pineapples and Chilean flame raisins, mimicking birds in a nature documentary.
Carol Flint, head of brand at Jordans, said, 'Our new TV commercial features Jordans Muesli and Crunchy Oats, two ranges that we have recently redesigned to showcase the abundance of natural ingredients they contain. This new campaign is the latest instalment in our sustained investment behind the Jordans brand.'
In 2008, VCCP assisted Jordans with relaunching its muesli range with a press and poster campaign highlighting the brand's commitment to growing all cereals in a natural way.

Tim & Graeme at Humph tribute, Kaleidoscope event, and Meet John Howard Davies |
more from same (The Goodies) |
* A February 5, 2010 article from This is Plymouth (http://www.thisisplymouth.co.uk/features/Live-Apollo/article-1805742-detail /article.html) says that Tim & Graeme will be participating in a tribute to Humphrey Lyttelton at the Hammersmith Apollo on April 25th. While the article erroneously says that will be on the first anniversary of Humph's passing I found at least one additional website confirming the date of the tribute as April 25, 2010.
Tickets are not on sale yet but keep an eye on the Hammersmith Apollo's website: http://venues.meanfiddler.com/apollo/full-listings
Here are the first few paragraphs of the Plymouth article: "PLYMOUTH jazz diva Louise Parker may have sung in some prestigious places in her career to date, but she's never played to quite as many as will be packing out the Hammersmith Apollo on April 25. The legendary 5,000-capacity hall will be hosting an evening to celebrate the life of the late great Humphrey Lyttelton – who died exactly one year ago to the day – with a star-studded bunch of artists. The line-up includes appearances from among others Elkie Brooks, Stacy Kent, Acker Bilk and his band, Kenny Ball and his jazz men, Courtney Pine, Charlie Watts and his big band, Jools Holland, Wally Fawkes, Dave Green, John Pickard, Barry Cryer, Jack Dee, Tim Brooke-Taylor, Graham Gardener, Sandy Toksvig, Andy Hamilton… and our very own Louise."
