Goodies Gingerbread House Contest 2011 – celebrating classic comedy TV series The Goodies with the use of gingerbread. Choose anything Goodies related, re-create it in gingerbread and enter the contest – and you stand a chance of being a winner! For information on the Goodies-related prizes you can win, keep an eye on http://goodiescontest.wordpress.com
There are two classes to enter:
House class: Bake the parts yourself or use pre-made gingerbread snaps, and assemble them into a 3D house/creation. Don’t forget the decorations – icing is usually the main thing, but other edibles can also be used.
Decoration class: Use icing and other edibles to decorate one or more gingerbread snaps.
(one entrant per class per person, so you can enter both classes with two different contributions – and remember all parts must be edible)
Take photos of your contributions (House class 2-4 photos, Decoration class 1-2 photos) and email them to goodiescontest@gmail.com
Your contributions should be sent in before MIDNIGHT (your local time) December 12th

Clunk, click ... R.I.P. Jimmy |
more from same (The Goodies) |
Jimmy Savile, the eccentric radio broadcaster who the Goodies had fun sending up on various occasions (most notably Graeme in "Chubby Chumps"), has died at the age of 84.

Flamboyant British TV and radio star Jimmy Savile dies By David Stringer From: AP October 30, 2011 7:32AM
VETERAN British broadcaster Jimmy Savile, a famously eccentric culture figure, has died at his home in northern England aged 84. Savile, known for his garish tracksuits, chunky gold jewellery and boundless enthusiasm for pop music and charity work, was the host of two long-running British television programs and claimed to have been a long-time confidant to Prince Charles and ex-Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher. Rarely seen without his trademark large cigar, Savile had initially worked in a coal mine as a teenager before embracing music and building a national profile as a disc jockey - first in Britain's dance halls and later on radio, including the renowned Radio Luxembourg. West Yorkshire Police confirmed that officers had been called on Saturday to Savile's home in the city of Leeds, northern England, and said that there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding his death. The cause is not yet known. Savile claimed to have been the first DJ in the world to use two turntables - enabling continuous music to be played - and to have pioneered the use of records, rather than live bands, at nightclubs. "History has it that I was the very, very first in the whole world" to organise a disco event, he told the BBC in May. Bestowed with a knighthood for his charity fundraising, Savile was best known as the host of the BBC's Top Of The Pops weekly television pop music show, launching the program in 1964 and returning to present its final edition in 2006. For almost 20 years from 1975, Savile also hosted the hugely popular series Jim'll Fix It, in which the broadcaster responded to children's letters by arranging for their wishes to be realised. Savile championed a host of good causes - frequently running marathons to raise money - and led work to collect £20 million ($30.22 million) for the creation of a national spinal injuries centre at Stoke Mandeville Hospital in southern England. "He was a very energetic character," friend and fellow radio presenter David Hamilton told Britain's Sky News television. "But most of all, I remember him as just a totally flamboyant, over the top, larger than life character and as he was on the air, he was just the same off." Savile never married and lived alone in his native Leeds, in northern England, reserving part of his home as a shrine to his late mother. His guarded, and sometime curious, private life was the subject of a television documentary in 2000 by film maker Louis Theroux, son of author Paul Theroux.

Oddie songs on Resonance FM |
more from same (The Goodies) |
Thanks to fan club member ponyharvest for posting the following in the forums:
I was invited to be a guest on Jonny Trunk's 'OST' (=Original Sound Track) show on Resonance FM on Saturday, in amongst library records, Italian spaghetti western themes, Sheffield-based musicals and BBC sound effects I played a couple of Oddie musical numbers, 'Boomerang Love' from The Clown Virus and 'Sing Us A Song' from ISIRTA and talked a bit about the incidental music from the Goodies shows and Andrew Pixley's book (which was only fair as most of my information about this had come from there!)
It's repeated this Wednesday 26th 3 - 5pm (UK time) on 104.4FM in the Central London area, and via their website http://resonancefm.com/ to the rest of the world.

Bill's shoes sold for charity |
more from same (The Goodies) |
Bill was one of the celebrities to donate shoes for a charity auction, according to an article at http://www.looktothestars.org/news/7146-celebrity-shoes-go-under-the-hammer-at-charity-event which has a fun photo of Bill and the shoes (which were sold for £350.00). Here are more details from that page:
Celebrity Shoes Go Under The Hammer At Charity Event
Over 350 people – including many of the celebrity shoe donors themselves – showed their support for the fundraising Celebrity Shoe Auction at The Royal Society of Medicine, at One Wimpole St, London on October 12.
Celebrities who attended the event included legendary designer Zandra Rhodes, actor Peter Egan, actor Roger Lloyd-Pack (recently in Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy), actor Vicki Michelle, writer Michele Hanson, presenter Bill Oddie and actor James Purefoy.

Celebrity auctioneer Henry Kelly charmed the audience so much so that James Purefoy not only bid and won Bond girl Eva Green’s brogues, but he then donated them back to the charity for the online auction which started yesterday. Alongside Eva Green, shoes donated by Colin Firth, Sarah Jessica Parker, Russell Brand, Ben Stiller, Will Ferrell, Bill Murray and Sienna Miller are amongst 60 other famous pairs going under the hammer online for 7 days!
Small Steps Project is a humanitarian charity that delivers shoes, aid and medical care to children on rubbish dumps all over the world.
Break down of celebrity shoe results: £260.00 LOT 1 Liam Gallagher £300.00 LOT 1 Joanna Lumley £250.00 LOT 6 Sarah Jessica Parker £350.00 LOT 9 Bill Oddie £850.00 LOT 12 Kate Moss
The evening in total raised almost £12,000.
