"Bill Oddie translates bird tweets on Twitter"
more from same (Bill's Nature Shows)
Bill's Nature ShowsFrom the "how appropriate" file -  the following appears online at http://www.itv.com/news/2012-09-18/bill-oddie-translates-bird-tweets-on-twitter/

Bill Oddie translates bird tweets on Twitter
- last updated Tue 18 Sep 2012

Bill Oddie has given Twitter a more literal meaning today as he translated bird calls into tweets at ZSL London Zoo.

The naturalist and head bird-keeper Adrian Wallis interpreted the chirps of the aviary's tropical residents and summarised the results in 140 characters. The event was held to mark the beginning of the migration season for the bird world.

Oddie said trained ears can pick up differences that can alter the meaning of a bird call.

“Every bird has a bit of a vocabulary. They have seven different areas of sound, and they will all have meaning.

It might be a young bird asking for food, or a bird saying 'this is my territory.
– Bill Oddie
Tweets from Oddie, under the hashtag #BirdsThatTweet, included:

Very territorial call from the Scarlet Chested Sunbird - protecting it's nest #BirdsThatTweet http://t.co/vRlDrxVU
-From @BillOddie on Twitter:(about 8 hours ago)

The Shama is quite vain and enjoys washing itself and can often be seen cleaning its feathers #BirdsThatTweet
-From @BillOddie on Twitter:(about 8 hours ago)

That red billed toucan was calling for a girlfriend. Sounds to me like he is shouting for some company! #BirdsThatTweet
-From @BillOddie on Twitter:(about 7 hours ago)
Throughout the morning, @BillOddie, @zsllondonzoo and @TwitterUK shared bird-related facts, statistics, links and popular resources.

“I jumped at the chance to take part in this activity. What better way to bring Twitter to life for the bird-watching community than translating the tweets of birds.

We are trying to show people what they can do on Twitter when it comes to bird-watching, if people just get involved by using the hashtag #BirdsThatTweet a whole world of tweeting and twittering and ornithological information will be theirs.

We are using Twitter as an educational tool and an informational tool to get the information out there and get people to care about things.

It is a simple fact that every bird has a vocabulary and has several different sounds and they will all have a different meaning.
– Bill Oddie

I'm Sorry I Haven't A Clue Newsletter - September 2012
more from same (British Comedy)
British ComedyHere is the latest official I'm Sorry I Haven't A Clue Newsletter.

--------------------------------------
ISIHAC NEWSLETTER

Dear I’m Sorry I Haven’t A Clue Mailing List Member

Here are details of the first recording in the Autumn 2012 series of “I’m Sorry I Haven’t A Clue” in this its 40th Anniversary Year:

The recording will take place on Wednesday 10th October at the Grove Theatre in Dunstable. It will be a double recording of the show (e.g. 2 programmes will be recorded) for broadcast on BBC Radio 4.

Tickets will cost £9, £7 and £5 respectively, and are obtainable from 9.30am on Friday 14th September via the Grove Theatre’s Box Office, telephone: 01582 602080 (selecting option 7 to speak to an adviser), or online via the theatre’s website at www.grovetheatre.co.uk

For those wishing to purchase tickets in person, the address is the Grove Theatre, Grove House Gardens, Court Drive, Dunstable, Bedfordshire LU5 4GP, however, you should be aware that there is no physical admittance to the Box Office until 10am.

The recording starts at 7.30pm and will be finished around 10.30pm. Tickets will be limited to a strict maximum of 4 per applicant – by whatever booking system. Demand for tickets is very great, so you are advised to purchase early to avoid disappointment, and you should allow for queue waiting times for the Box Office, either by ‘phone or in person, to be longer than usual.

The standard box office opening hours are Monday to Friday, 10am - 5.00pm, Saturdays 10am – 2pm - but it remains open until 15 minutes after a show starts on performance days. (Please note the earlier time for ‘phone and website bookings on the 14th September – *specifically* for this performance).

I will be writing again in a few weeks time to announce the final two recordings in the 58th Series of the show, together with details of a special 40th Anniversary Christmas show we’ll be recording in December.

In other news, early next month sees the publication of a new “I’m Sorry I Haven’t A Clue” book to celebrate this year’s Anniversary. Entitled “I’m Sorry I Haven’t A Clue – The Best of 40 Years”, it’s a substantial 288 page tome, packed with highlights from the show as well as full colour photos and illustrations. We think it’s our best yet. It features a foreword by Stephen Fry and retails at £20 – or £14.46 on Amazon. Here’s a link to it via our website (where you can Pre-Order a copy on Amazon): www.isihac.net/merchandise

I’m sure the team would be pleased to sign a copy after one of the recordings.

Finally, I’ve been asked by regular Clue panellist Tony Hawks to draw your attention to the film he’s made of his best-selling book “Playing The Moldovans At Tennis” which you can buy or stream at this website: www.moldovansmovie.com

As you’ll see, Tony is donating every penny of profit to the Tony Hawks Centre for children with cerebral palsy in Chisinau, Moldova. I’m sure you’ll agree it’s a very worthy cause.
With best wishes

Jon Naismith

Australian news articles about censored Goodies clips
more from same (The Goodies)
The GoodiesAustralian newspapers The Sydney Morning Herald and The Age have run articles about the discovery of footage which had been censored from episodes of "The Goodies" during their 1970's broadcasts on the ABC.  While it's great to have feature newspaper articles about The Goodies, especially
ones including extensive quotes from Tim, Graeme, and Bill, the timing of these articles is a little odd. The footage was discovered in 2009 by ABC Archivist John Williams; some of the recovered clips were shown publicly that year by Tim and Graeme during their shows at the Riverside Theatre in Parramatta (October 15) and the World's Funniest Island in Sydney (October 17 & 18). John kindly had provided the story about how he recovered the footage for the fan club's Clarion & Globe Newsletter - it appeared in the November 2009 World's Funniest Island Special Edition which can be found online at http://www.goodiesruleok.com/articles.php?id=164
