It worked when I copied it into word, then copied it from word, to my journal.

Hi Ratdog,
Sounds like the website is still timing out from thinking you're idle while you're typing your longer entries. Try one of zaphod's suggestions and see if those help.
I've used option #1 when I'm typing up the occasional long forum or news entry; that's worked well for me.

I've just logged on, and tried again, soon as i logged on. Still getting this error recording data when I type a longer entry.

that's becasue your login is timing out before you finish typing your entry.
You have a couple of options:
1. write out your entry in notepad/wordpad band just paste it into the journal when you are done.
2. check the "remember me" when you login, which doesn't time you out.
Never settle with words when a flamethrower! is much more fun
