Trying hard to avoid plugging the podcast, BUT...
Leela your timing is impeccable in reviving this thread.
We just recorded an interview with Jonathan Wood (BBC Colourist who restored the eps for the two Beeb DVDs) a couple of days ago and he spoke about this.
We quizzed him on the very new Colour Recovery (CR) technology they have (by Richard Russell I think?) that was used to re-colourise a recent Dr Who dalek episode, and whether it'd be possible that the same could be done for The Commonwealth Games at some stage.
Seeing them again in the original colour (not a re-paint such as done by Legend colourisation) is not out of the question.
The chat with JW should be out late March or early April.
Cheers!
Jeffers.

' Hi troyness - welcome to the forums!

"Sporting Goodies" (aka "The Commonwealth Games") wasn't filmed in black & white.  Unfortunately, color versions of three Goodies episodes (that one plus "The Playgirl Club" and "Come Dancing") no longer exist in the BBC archive.  Luckily they were able to recover black & white prints that were sent  overseas, to countries that weren't yet broadcasting in color, so the episodes aren't entirely missing.

Here's an article on Wikipedia explaining why the BBC used to delete items from their archives.

Actually on the Goodies At last a Second Helping DVD there's a restored version of "Come Dancing" in very weak color.

Hi. I was watching an episode today (Sporting Goodies) and was wondering why it was filmed in B&W when previous episodes are in colour. It surely can't be for the reason that colour wasn't available otherwise they all would be B&W. Just curious and wondering if anyone could please answer my question.
