I saw "Willy Wonka" in the theatre when it first came out and saw Tim in it, but I haven't seen that sequence since then; it's been broadcast on TV, but the sequence with Tim as the computer programmer seems to have been edited out. If you haven't seen it, Tim commands the computer to calculate where the next Golden Ticket will show up, and the computer refuses because that would be cheating. Tim types madly at the keyboard, saying, "I am now telling the computer that I will gladly share my prize with it," and the computer says, "Don't be silly-- what would a computer do with a lifetime's supply of chocolate?" Tim starts typing again, and mutters, "I am now telling the computer EXACTLY what it can do with a lifetime's supply of chocolate!"
I haven't seen "Willy Wonka" on tape or DVD-- has that scene been restored? In any case it's a very Goodies-ish moment. |

Hi Goodies fans!!
I am not sure if this has bene covered already but its something which recently came to my attention.
I bought a copy of the DVD of the classic children's musical adventure "Willy Wonker and the Chocolate Factory"". Its a familiar story i guess to most of you out there new and old. Anyway, about 1/2 way into the film, i happen to spot a Goodie!!
Five golden tickets have been placed in Wonker chocolate bars around the world and everyone is trying to grab one for a chance to visit the wonderful chocolate factory. In one scene, a group of scientists are standing around a large (now dated)
computer. The chief scientisit is no other than Tim Brooke Taylor. Note this film was made in 1970 and released in 1971 so predates the Goodies. he plays a very funny role as despite advances in computer technology (even for the 1970s), the location of the Wonker chocolate bars remains a mystery.
I was quite suprised when i saw Tim...i thought that Graeme Gardener would have been perfect for the role! Especially with that enduring beard of his.
And what is so annoying is that Tim does not even get a mention in the credits.
A big hello to you all and cant wait for the next release of the Goodies on DVD....bring it on!!
regards Ross (in Sydney). |
